There are so few real pubs like this, a nice place that hasn't been "modernised". Will go back one evening and have a game of pool or darts (how often do you see a games area?) “I am American and visited this place in mid-January when my class went to Winchester Cathedral, so my review may not be reflective of the place now and does not fit with the horde of recent negative reviews. I had a potato and leek soup, cheese scone, and a gingerbread soy latte. Coffee and soup were pretty good, but the cheese scone was 100% the star. Out of my 5 months in Britain, it was seriously the best scone I ever had, so full of flavour and soft and crumbly in the best way. I told my group multiple times that I wanted to come back to Winchester just for this cheese scone (but I would visit the Cathedral again, it's stunning). If things have changed, I apologise, but I dream of that wonderful cheese scone still.”

The vegetarian pizza mains were exceptionally good and the meat carvery and vegetarian carveries were all high quality and tasty. The desserts and bottomless ice-cream, for those with room, rounded off a good value for money meal with helpful, attentive staff at hand.”

The staff were really friendly, food was lovely and hot when served and they had a really good menu choice. Good mix of pub classics and some more unusual dishes. They had a separate GF menu that had a good selection of starters, mains AND puddings! Reasonably priced and good quality. Thank-you for such polite, friendly service and giving us time to enjoy our meal.”

“The restaurant was comparatively quiet so the atmosphere of a bubbling Italian eating experience was a little muted. This said, the service was very quick and efficient. Drinks were served in no time followed by the main dishes. The lasagne, it was said to be great and the carbonara was one of the best. The table setting did lack a spoon but did not detract from a great dining experience with our Grandson. Will definitely be back.”
