"Loved Living There! I lived in the Truman building for 2.5 years. Overall, I loved it. Pros: -The units are really nice and feel very new. -Solid group of respectful tenants. -Elevator is lightning fast and the close elevator button actually works! -The appliances are late model. -Kitchen w/ subway tile style backsplash, stainless steel range hood, quartz countertop, and no-slam drawers. -The bathroom is HUGE. -The heat/ac (if your unit has ac) works quickly to heat & cool the whole unit. -Great water pressure. -The large windows give a lot of light. -Location is fantastic. -Management is kind and respectful of personal space. They only entered once per year for fire alarm testing. -Management was easy to contact. -Very honest & fair when it came time to refund my security deposit. -Maintenance requests were handled promptly. Cons: -The fire alarm system needs to be addressed. The alarm went off frequently for a while and then more often than necessary. The control panel in foyer is often beeping for some reason or another. If you have pets, take this into consideration because it’s extremely loud. There were a couple of valid incidents (kitchen of former restaurant on 1st floor and smoldering food on a hot burner in a unit) but neither caused damage to units or common areas. -The washer & dryer are Electrolux economy machines. They work well but are small and the dryer doesn’t have an external vent so it blows into the bathroom through a vent panel on the front at the bottom. This can cause the bathroom to get pretty warm. -The refrigerator is tall and narrow. It’s nice and the freezer works great but even after a replacement, the fridge barely stayed in safe range (even after being gone for days & fridge staying closed). -The windows’ design makes it impossible to have them open when it rains. If they are left open during rain, water will pound through the screen and drain onto the sill & floor. -Sound doesn’t really travel through the walls but it DEFINITELY travels through the floors. If you’re like me, you might end up with an upstairs neighbor harboring a pet peg-legged hippo (I can only assume) and hear it as it stomps around above you. When someone new moved in, I left them a welcome note w/ an explanation of the last tenant’s river dance tendencies and an Amazon gift card for some soft slippers ;) It worked out well and until the 3rd tenant moved in shortly before I left, it was very quiet. -I suggest not having packages delivered to the lobby. Tell Amazon to drop at your door or use lockers, have UPS diverted to store 2 blocks away, etc. There were countless package thefts due (I assume) to delivery people selling access code to thieves. I DID feel personally safe in my home though. Overall, I would definitely recommend this building and am so glad I chose to live here for 2.5 years before purchasing a house."
"I lived here for a little over a year. Overall all the appliances and the unit is super nice. I love the location, and it’s very walkable. The main reason I’m moving out is because the buildings fire alarm system goes off pretty much weekly - and sometimes more than once per day. The alarm itself is about 3 mins but it goes off throughout all hours per day and night. I reached out to management various times about this and kept getting ignored. They told me this happens from “shower steam” or “popcorn being burnt”, but that doesn’t justify the whole entire buildings system (including your own unit’s) alarm going off. If you work from home, I don’t recommend living here because it has interrupted meetings, interviews, etc etc."
