"We had the worst rental experience we have ever and hope to ever have while tenants with The Ella Marie, and I am not even referring to the active shooter, constant break ins, or overwhelming stench of animal urine surrounding the building. My husband and I lived in our unit for 2 years. Of that 2 years we spent 1.5 with a door to the outside, and only source of fresh air, that did not seal. As if that wasnt hard enough to deal with the less than handy man finally "took a look" after neglecting us for over a year and subsequently we spent the last 2 months of our residence with Guardian with a door that didnt close. At all. But ofcourse the building was also far to "minimalistic" or cheap for screens so what was already over a year of constantly flowing dust and small insects into our home quickly became a steady breeze of debris. After 2 months of them once again failing to make any repairs and us reminding our building manager time and time again it is illegal to seal us into our apartment with a plastic tarp and duct tape we were forced to vacate our apartment with all of the proper refunds, reimbursements, and "fee waivers" to just barely prevent us from filing a lawsuit. Don't live here unless you're already so used to being sad you literally don't care. Edit: guardian did not attempt to resolve anything with us, they denied there were available apartments to move to when there in fact were and repeatedly attempted to seal the only window/door in our apartment with plastic and duct tape. Something we had to remind them too many times was not a solution but actually illegal."
"*I am not a resident: this is strictly about an in-person tour experience* I was able to schedule an in-person tour with Joy Pope during the Covid and she has been so helpful and amazing. She made sure all of our Qs are answered and provided with a follow up email right after the tour. We instantly loved the unit, but with multiple personal reasons, we weren't able to sign the lease. But Joy provided all the information we needed and answered all Qs so promptly, even when she was off for the day! I never want to make anyone work off hours, but with our tight timeline, I really appreciate that Joy did that for us. I can't say much about the unit or the building itself, since I haven't lived in it, but if Joy is the manager, then I would probably trust that it's great. If we ever need any APT in the future, we will definitely look Ella Marie again."
"Been awesome place to live and Brandy and the crew are easy to work with!"
"We toured around 15 different apartment communities when first moving to Portland last year. The location and apartments at Ella Marie were by far our favorite. The flooring, appliances, and overall construction is extremely high end. The property manager, Brandy, has always been very helpful. We've had a few maintenance issues within the apartment, and the service manager, Bill, is always quick to respond and is a pleasure to work with. We've lived here for almost a year now and couldn't be happier!"
"While a beautiful unit in a new building, I feel the architect/builder weren't in line with today's Portlander's eco expectations - and definately with this one who likes air flow! It's a habit. ;) I loved the unit up until I learned that the HEAT/AC UNIT is controlled ONLY BY A REMOTE! It's a Carrier unit up towards ceiing in hall. There isn't thermostat permanently on the wall... and no way to set a schedule (but there is a timer on the remote. Yay.). What a shockingly POOR ENERGY EFFICIENT decision to make on new building. But I guess they saved a few dollars... that they will make up on the rents, I'm sure. The one in my current place is set to turn up and down 4x throughout the day/night to keep me comfortable and not waste power & money. In addition, I have a Nest so can participate in PGE's summer power savings program during surges (for which I get a check and never even notice the adjustments they made). But if I move into Ella Marie... What if I left my a/c off or used the timer thinking I would only be gone for a short while, but something happened now going to be gone all day/eve?... my pet is now in danger because it wasn't programmable. And I don't know about you, but I really want to make sure I can turn up/down my heat/cool - always! Not dependant on whether I can find the remote. I lose my phone all the time, having to use iWatch to find it, so what happens when it's misplaced it in the middle of the night? Or the battery runs out? Crawl up on a ladder? (for which you better have a 6 ft one in your closet to do so). The leasing person kind of stood there wide eye as I respectfully asked these questions agreeing with me but didn't have answers... other than to call her manager to ask if there was anything to be done. Like what? Shame, I would have signed a long lease likely too. The search continues. :("
