"I’ve been living here for a year and a half. In the past year my rent has been raised twice, and substantially, by hundreds of dollars. The building is poorly maintained. The gym hasn’t been cleaned the whole time I’ve lived here, it’s filthy. The fobs to enter the building will randomly stop working so you can’t get in the building. The overpriced parking garage has constant break ins (when my car was broken into they didn’t even check the cameras, and said they don’t promise security). Sound proofing is poor, I can hear tv and music from my neighbors constantly. Apartments are really pretty and look nice but poor quality, the fake wood floors are peeling up on the corners, sliding doors constantly come off the tracks from normal use, dryers break constantly."
"UPDATED: Be prepared for a maximum rent increase at each lease renewal. The building’s management told me that they are more interested in maximizing short term profit than they are in maintaining long term residents with an excellent tenant history. I found the building manager to be transparently disingenuous when discussing lease renewal, and I was even explicitly told that they would prefer that I find another place so they can rent my unit at a higher rate. If you’re looking for a short term luxury apartment in St John’s, this is an adequate choice. If you’re looking for a place to call home, look elsewhere. I have lived in The Union at St Johns for 3.5 years. The apartments are roomy, and great floor-to-ceiling windows. The amenities are comparable to other complexes. The maintenance crew is fantastic. The quality of the building, its amenities, and the surrounding neighborhood have all noticeably declined during my time here."
"My fiance and I have been living at the Union since October 2020. So far I have enjoyed living in this apartment. Location is amazing in the St John area and right next to the school. Amenities is up to date and very clean. Managing Team is very attentive and the maintenance staff is friendly and work quick. Though a lot of good, there is some minor issues but it is not 100% Union's fault: The apartment is next to a very busy street and a lot of car noise. The area is not quiet such as most urban living areas. (Some reason a lot of drivers like to rev engines in the small street.) There has been two thief incident in garage/lobby. Managing Team is transparent and worked quickly reinforce security as well. (No fault to staff or security issue, just people being laxed and letting people in the door that does not live there.) Mailing and Packages has sometime been a hassle. Multiple issue with mail delivery driver not able to access the mail room and miss deliveries. As well as large package just left on the floor (I think this is a issue to the delivery service not knowing the system as well) Overall we are pleased with our living with friendly neighbor and attentive staffing."
"I’ve lived at the Union at St. John’s since January. There are many wonderful things about living here, but the highlight is by far seeing Mt Hood AND the St. John’s bridge from my apartment. I live in a 2 bedroom with my partner and our 2 dogs. We have plenty of room for living comfortably and a storage unit down the hall from our apartment to house our unused items. There is a lovely patio, garage parking, a nice community room and gym, there’s a dog washing station and monthly resident repurpose and recycle events. The apartment is really quiet except for street traffic, but it’s to be expected in the more urban setting. We love the aesthetic of the building, the attentive maintenance staff, the location (walking distance to several parks and Lombard street), and most importantly, this building is full of friendly people and adorable doggos making it feel like home. If you’ve never been to St. John’s, it’s a great little community with everything you need nearby/within walking distance, access to disc golf at Pier Park, Chimney park for the dogs, lots of restaurants and bars, several grocery markets, and the most beautiful bridge in all of Portland. I highly recommend The Union at St John’s!"
"My partner and I have lived here for about 8 months and absolutely love it. The staff is always professional and try their best to accommodate everyone's needs. They make your move in go by as smooth as possible and even reserve an elevator for you for the entire day. The maintenance crew is amazing, especially right now with the Pandemic. Although we've had a few issues with our AC, they always found a way to fix it within minutes. The staff also likes to keep us up to date with local events happening nearby by putting up posters/ads on the bulletin board in the mail room, where you're also allowed to post your business cards, business promotions, your soundcloud/bandcamp link if your a musician, and so forth. My favorite part of the building is the community room. It's nice, cozy, and easily accessible from any floor since it's right across the elevator. They have free wi-fi, a few board games, a really nice espresso machine, a full kitchen, two dining tables, two full screen TV's, a restroom, comfortable seating, and an exit to the spacious patio that's perfect for barbecues/get togethers. Oh! And I also love how they have extra storage rooms on each floor. If you're like me, you'll love how close The Union is to some of the best Mexican restaurants/markets in town (Rose City Taqueria, Santa Cruz, El Compadre, etc) and how its at a walk-able distance to the St. Johns bridge. There's also a new bakery that opened next door that's delicious! And finally, although the pandemic has been really stressful for a lot of us, I have to give credit to the staff because they continue to work their a** off to make sure their residents are safe and content. So yeah, The Union at St. Johns is a wonderful place to live! And if you've reached this far of my review, you'll be happy to know that the walls at The Union are THICK. My neighbors could be singing their hearts out on karaoke night and I wouldn't be able to hear a single word. Chris Angel could be pulling some wild tricks in a room full of fan girls and I wouldn't be able to hear any of it. :) Great place, I tell ya."
