"This is the loudest place I have lived in as an adult. Between the sirens, traffic noise, business patrons (whether it’s 2 pm or rowdy people stumbling around at 2 am) and a business on Haywood that has violated noise ordinances multiple times and inconsiderate neighbors. It’s a lot. If you’re looking for a quiet place to live - this isn’t it. It doesn’t feel like the safest place, either. It’s also common to come across people rummaging through dumpsters."
"Lived here for 5 years, and had a mostly positive experience. Have heard from old neighbors that dealing with Altamus is worse than during my time there though. This was originally posted after I left around May 2021. Pros: -Dog-friendly apartments & a small dog park area (not amazing for running+playing since it's just mulch & a bench, but is fine for a dog bathroom break before/after work). Generally I walked my dog through the neighborhood behind the apt complex to get his exercise. -Bottom floor gets nice concrete floors that are easy to clean and the apt stays relatively cool during the summer -Bedrooms and the main living area have a good amount of space, and the tile shower is nice -Great location in West Asheville near a lot of restaurants/bars -Generally good neighbors at the time when I left, mostly kept to themselves Cons: -The price+ rent increases - I felt it was reasonable for the first few years, and they held off on big rent hikes during the pandemic tbf to them, but you pay extra for the location and in May 2022 my rent would have gone up $200/mo if I had stayed. -Some landscaping issues, I think they resolved them permanently with the last few fixes but my patio flooded and a fairly substantial amount of water got in through the backdoor twice in the last year I lived there. Luckily b/c of the concrete floor and my couch having wooden feet & no skirts there was no lasting damage from it. You may also have to watch out for ants during the Spring/Summer if you're on the ground floor. -Issues with the fire system (again only in the past year, but unlike the landscaping didn't seem permanently fixed when I left) had it beeping/screeching from the shared hallway and scaring my dog, sometimes for a full day or more before it being fixed -If you leave your car unlocked accidentally, it may be broken into in the middle of the night since the apts are right on the main West Asheville street. They have a few outward-facing cameras but I never heard back about the break-in after asking them if they caught anything. Neutral? -Noise generally isn't an issue UNLESS your neighbors have dogs that bark noisily and often when they aren't home. Wasn't a problem when I moved out, but was during the first 2 years I lived there. -They have a fire pit, but it's a gas fire pit that doesn't make much heat and I almost never saw anyone use it. The shared outside seating area+grill around it is nice though. -The apt complex owners have another complex (River Mill Lofts) across town with their office + a pool, which you can use during the Summer if you're willing to drive 10/15 minutes. Hope this helps you decide if you want to live here!"
"Part of the problem. Unless you like flushing money in increasing amounts while receiving little in return so a corporate landlord can continue to push working class families out and buy up all the available properties then steer clear. Asheville is a shadow of the weird endearing town it once was, reinvented in a dull homogenous pretentious redundancy like all the other towns ruined by all the money and the people it brings like a plague of locust."
"I'm not one to ever post a negative review about anything. I'm normally patient and understanding, but Altamus Property Management used deceitful tactics, misled me, and ignored multiple emails and inquiries when looking for an apartment before tricking me into leasing a storefront with no privacy. They were originally offering one of the 2 bedrooms on the haywood village website, but once they realized I was moving from out of state, they insisted on another unit even when I referred back to the original apartment. They baited me into renting a storefront that doesn't match any of the floorplans on their website, has no windows in the main living area, and the "balcony" French doors open up to public sidewalk. This should not be a residential unit. These misleading tactics, evasiveness, and fraudulent behavior is the exact reason property management companies like altamus have a bad reputation nationally. They refuse to acknowledge their unprofessional conduct and they of course have all of the power in these situations. It is wrong and altamus cannot be trusted."
"Nice apartments (I liked the cool wall in the living room) but 0 amenities, paper thin walls and rude office staff. It's not worth dealing with the seemingly high school aged staff. They need to work on their professional communication skills."
