"I stayed at this hotel years ago and it was one of my favorite places in Asheville. Not anymore. The place is very shabby. The indoor pool was ice cold despite being promised that it was heated and in operation, no hot tub, which has not been working for over a month as it turns out, even though we called ahead of time and were told it was working. There was no dresser in my room for clothes so we had to put clothes on the floor! When I told the front desk they told me the manager would get back to me. Never did. Still no explanation for why no dresser, so we left clothes on the floor. There was a very long water stain on the rug in the hall which also smelled of mold. Told the front desk and they did spray it with Lysol, but left the stain. The staff were very nice, but clearly had no leadership. Half of the stuff on the restaurant menu was not available either. Whoever is in charge here has checked out. All of the other guests felt the same way especially because it is winter and most everyone wanted the heated pool and hot tub which is why I booked here in first place. I know the Renaissance brand and this place is on par with a Hampton Inn. I also think it is interesting that the manager does not comment at all about the negative reviews online. I'm contacting corporate."
"We unfortunately could not get food at the hotel from 10am to 5pm. Normally this would not be an issue but the weather outside was very bad, and we could not practically walk to get food. I was told by someone at the front desk that we are downtown, and they suggested I could walk to get food...walk to get food in the pouring rain and weather? It was a bad attempt at a way to placate the situation. I suggest the hotel has food during normal lunch hours. With said rain, there was an issue with the gym. It was closed and ultimately never opened before we left. I couldn't eat, and I couldn't workout. I asked the front desk if they could get a pass to the YMCA across the street since the gym was closed. I was assured that I would get a call in my room to let me know. 1.5 hours passed and I got no call. I called about it and another person answered and they said they heard nothing new. I went downstairs to talk to the original person about the pass at the YMCA, and was given what felt like an excuse that they left a message and no one called back. I had already called the Y and found out I could get a 3 day free trial or buy a day pass. I felt like the person at the front desk didn't put much effort into trying to help with this. Normally I wouldn't be too annoyed, but considering the lack of food, and the lack of a gym at the hotel, I felt this was the least they could do, and they were unable to deliver. During all of this, I went downstairs to extend our rooms as due to the weather, we had to extend an extra day. My rest was disturbed with someone knocking on my door with the do not disturb sign. I thought by going down and having the room extended, I would not get disturbed while resting. I suggest that if a DND sign is on the door, that housekeeping should call down to the front desk to check before disturbing rest. Overall, this hotel could do much better."
"This is a hotel in a great location that, upon first arrival seems high end. The longer you stay, the more clear it is shown that is just gloss over a dated hotel. It is charging too much of a premium for its location. The breakfast is basically a buffet you get at Holiday Inn, but a fresh omelet service. Paying $20 for this is a scam. If it prices where at $150 instead of $250+ this would be a great place."
"The rooms are very nice looking, efficient, clean, and equipped with everything I needed. Fun, lively bar area, and a tasty omelette for breakfast! I went down two different times to the front desk, and I waited for a little while for someone to arrive. Don't stay in a room facing one of the clubs on the weekend if you are an early riser/light sleeper, or you might find yourself having a hard time sleeping due to being able to hear music from outside through the sealed windows. All in all, a decent hotel to stay in with a comfy bed."
"Very nice hotel. Checking in was fast and simple. Room was average size and nothing special, however it was very clean and everything was in excellent condition. We upgraded to a room with a view which was worth the additional amount. This hotel is in the perfect location and walkable to all downtown restaurants, shops and bars. We did not need our car until we were leaving. One note one that…keep your key as it is needed to exit the parking lot. We had a great experience and would definitely stay here again when in Asheville."
