"DO NOT RENT FROM SOFIELD! Unprofessional doesn't even begin to describe the company/owner! These people will do anything to keep your money, and good luck getting them to respond to emails or emergencies. They kept the majority of the deposit and stopped responding to emails when I asked for evidence of their "justifications" for keeping our money. This place is a joke!!!"
"Would not recommend to ANYONE!! They are highly unprofessional and terrible to work with or rent from. They are only interested in taking your money and will do whatever they have to to take as much as they can. I was evicted on account of things my roommates did (including some things that happened before I moved in or even signed the lease). Since our names were all on the lease we were all held equally accountable, even though I had nothing to do with any of their lease violations. They never returned my security deposit when I moved out. When I asked about it, they said they would send a check in the mail. What I received was not a check but a bill for damages and maintenance, even though I have not lived there for six months. There was an inspection when I moved out and nothing was said about damages or maintenance then. I had several other problems with Sofield while I was living there, including employees entering my bedroom while I was not home and without giving any notice beforehand. Long story short, DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE."
"I lived in a one bedroom unit at the Bloomfield Apartments for 2.5 years and loved it. It was spacious, clean, and cozy for the price. The complex is mostly "young professionals," so it's quiet. It's also pet-friendly. The only cons were 1) The steep driveway along a blind curve on 321, and 2) The annual unit inspections, which I felt were a bit intrusive (However, I understand why they were done). In my opinion, Sofield is the best rental company in Boone. Despite the Google ratings, they have a good reputation. My first landlord (Deena) was exceptional and my most recent landlord (Autumn) was great too. Maintenance was quick to fix issues. They seem like an honest company - I received my entire security deposit within 30 days of moving out. I will say that the "sublease" process entails ending your lease and transferring it to someone else, which is a $250 fee. There are also some fees for the new leaser ($200 administrative and $50 application fees). Unfortunately, I believe this is the norm in Boone. I still had no problem finding someone to fill my spot since these apartments are in high demand."
"I had a Bloomfield unit for 6 months, reasonably priced and clean on move in. I got my full deposit back just by doing some basic cleaning and they didn't try to charge me for stuff that I didn't cause. Only major issue was I didn't feel like I had enough time to decide whether or not to renew. I understand though because it's a college town. I'd rent from them again."
"Moved in to a disgusting, uncleaned apartment with a hairy bathroom and was overcharged for everything upon move out. They charged $40 for one stove drip pan. They will take your $$$. Constantly dealt with cigarette smoke and grill smoke coming into my window from neighbors."
