“A welcoming little pub in the ancient village of Heptonstall. Run by the inimitable Gig from The Golden Lion in nearly Todmorden, The Cross has a Thai menu and some decent cask. The pub is comfy with a lot of history (ask the locals) and an off-the-road courtyard beer garden Look put for local brewery Eagle's Crag - Pale Eagle, it's a top pint and great with the excellent Thai food on offer”

“Just returned from a lovely relaxing long weekend at Wighill Manor Lodges and have absolutely no major complaints. The farm is easily found using the sat nav and well signed from the road. The lodges are in a great location and are a 20 minute drive into York and a 30 minute drive into Harrogate. Upon arrival there was a crate set out showing you where to park to access reception (the owners dont like you to pull into the courtyard of the house as it is very small and almost impossible to get back out of). We were greeted by Melanie, who was very helpful and full of information, she explained and showed us where to go to find the Lodges which were set back away from the main house and farm. We were allocated the Sycamore lodge which, when booked via Hoseasons is called the Hawthorne lodge, but Melanie explained that they are exactly the same lodge, just turns our hoseasons categorised them by size rather than name. The lodge was 1 of 5 and was easily accessible via a gravelled lane and there was ample parking at our lodge for 2 cars (2 bedroom lodge). The lodge was absolutely spotless and beautiful and the heating had been turned on before we got there meaning that it was toasty, something which was very much appreciated during the stormy weather. The lodge had everything you could need supplied, cups, plates, bowls, cutlery and utensils, there were more pots pans and cooking utilities than I have in my own home. There were also washing up utilities and tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. The lodge came equipped with a dishwasher, with plenty of dishwasher tablets and a washing machine. We took full advantage of the dishwasher and it was nice to not have to wash up on a relaxing holiday. There was a tv with freesat and dvd player and the phone reception was pretty good too for anyone who has a phone or tablet with 4G. The bed was so comfortable, genuinely didn't want to come back home to my bed. The master bedroom had an ample sized en-suite with shower, there was also a family bathroom with a good sized bath and over-bath shower. Hot tub was a lovely bonus to have, there was a quick guide on how to operate the hot tub on the coffee table along with the information on how to use every appliance in the lodge and tourist guides. The hot tub was easy to use and absolutely fantastic! Clean (they are emptied and refilled after every visitor) and well maintained, we saw Melanie and Rupert braving the storm one afternoon to dose the tub. You dont have to wait for the hot tub to heat up as it is always heated for you and it sat at a gorgeous temperature. Theres a off timer set for 20 minutes (recommended usage time) but if you wanted to stay in longer you simply just had to put the jets back on. Only pointers I could give is possibly adding a seasonal canopy onto the hot tub, as because of the rain, we only got to use it twice (we didnt want to catch our deaths having cold heads and warm bodies). The patio door onto the veranda stuck slightly so you had to use a little force to open it. Due to the storm our main door leaked in but Melanie had prepared us for this and had left towels for us to put under the door to keep the water at bay, absolutely no fault of theirs as I expect they'll get it fixed when the weather is a bit better and it really didnt affect our stay. Lastly we were woken this morning by the fire alarm beeping (again absolutely no fault of the owners, at least it was working!), it didnt bother us as we had to be up ready to leave anyway. All in all an absolutely fantastic stay and would 100% reccomend to anyone and will probably return in the future!”

“Second visit to this hotel with my daughter, everything was perfect, the room was spacious and lovely and warm, the breakfast delicious. All of the staff we met were friendly and helpful, the only problem was we couldn’t stay longer. We will definitely be back and would recommend to everyone.”

“I booked through Groupon we have just recently got married and this was paid for from a friend as a wedding present. The afternoon tea and prosecco was lovely and Joseph's the manger upgraded us to the bootham suite when checked in which was a lovely touch .we loved the room very spacious and clean. The breakfast was great we will definitely be back fantastic stay thanks Amanda and phil jolly x”

“I loved it here. Such great value for money. It is decorated beautifully and I adored my room. The staff were really helpful and friendly, I needed help closing the windows and they came straight up to help me. The room was spacious and the bed was really comfy, I slept really well. I also loved the tea and coffee corner especially the coffee machine. My only advice would be that despite having instructions on how to use it it doesn't tell you to fill the side up with water so I spent about 15 mins trying to figure that out. Worth it though, as the hot chocolate was delicious. The bathroom was also gorgeous, the massive shower was to die for. I would recommend putting a shower cap in as I wanted to go under the massive rain like showerhead but didn't want to get my hair wet so I felt I lost a little of the experience. Just v small quibbles and they didn't affect my stay, I still had a wonderful time”

“Cannot fault a single thing. Room was immaculate, an absolute steal for the price. Stunning bathroom and underfloor heating felt like the best thing in the world after a day of hiking. We had our evening meal in the pub and although we hadn’t booked, we was happily accommodated despite it being a busy Sunday night which was greatly appreciated! Breakfast was lovely, top star service! We will definitely be back for another stay!”

“Found by fluke I stopped here for a night when out cycle touring. It's a gem! The pub is a digital detox zone so no mobile phones(!), really welcoming & cosy. The ensuite rooms are a refreshing change from bland identikit hotels, are spotless and the breakfast was lovely. Loved it and if/when returning to Leeds won't hesitate to book again. Thank you ☺️”

We stay here while visiting family and over the years the surrounding area has grown with various shops and restaurants near by, including a Starbucks, Aldi, Iceland, subway, McDonald's etc. Fab hotel for a great price and the plus is the staff are always extremely helpful and freindly.”

“Great place to stay in York! Walking distance from all the major sights, but off any major path so it's nice and quiet. The room was quaint, and had everything we needed plus the shower was bigger than expected. The host was also very hospital and makes a delicious breakfast.”

“Attended for a sportsmans lunch with Dominic Matteo as the speaker.I got to a few of these however, The venue is really classy. I can see why people have weddings there. The staff are friendly, the food was superb. A great day and well executed. I would like to highlight the personal attention the owner gave me over a issue I had ( not venue related regarding an auction prize) He made sure my query was answered and took time out to help me and was all you would hope and more as a venue owner. “Booked a table for Sunday lunch for 4. Warm welcome when we entered the pub. Fixed Sunday lunch menu either 2 or 3 courses that are really well priced. Food was excellent, in particular I had theSteak and ale pie which is home made. Meals came in good time and no pressure from anyone to vacate table when we had finished our meal. “We had our wedding at Middletons Hotel in August 2022. It was the most magical day. We arranged our wedding with 4 months to go until the date. With a lot to organise, the communication and help was faultless. Becky made everything feel easy to organise and with quick response times. We were made to feel really special in the run up to the wedding (including the complimentary menu tasting) and on the day itself. Everything ran smoothly from start to finish. We love this hotel, beautiful rooms, architecture, an amazing backdrop for a wedding with a lovely garden for the drinks reception. On top of this, the service is 5 star quality. The staff are so nice and helpful and will bend over backwards for their guests. Location for York is central but peaceful. We will definitely return for our future anniversaries. We stayed on the top floor which is not the best as there's no lift to carry your things or for people that actually need the lift. It was a pleasant stay and would definitely book again.”
