"Capitol veiw apartment has it's ups and downs.. cheap rent! But remember your gonna get what you pay for!!"
"The best thing about this place? My third floor apartment had an awesome view of the Capitol Building. That's it. I have nothing else to say that is nice. Let this be a warning to anyone who is looking for a place to rent: this is a hole where nothing works and no one fixes the nothing that works. For starters, none of my plugs stayed in the sockets. Seriously, the sockets were so loose, anything plugged in was just a wasted effort. My air conditioner frosted over after only a few hours, and in the middle of summer---the heat became unbearable when the blasted thing stopped working. Someone "repaired" an area under the kitchen sink before I moved in...but their "fix" was a few pieces of flimsy cardboard to stop....I have no idea. There wasn't a leak...but I never dared look under that layer of corrugated protection. The bathroom sink, however, was a nightmare and a half. For some reason, around December, it just started leaking...and the smell under the cabinet was horrendous...and the wood warped from water damage. I guess maybe the pipes burst? But...no one ever addressed the issue. The toilet was the same. Every now and again, water would leak all over the floor after flushing...and thank god it was clean water...because that was never addressed, either. So....now...let's venture outside into the horror that is the hallway and public areas. Dirty. Absolutely filthy: the carpet, the windows, the front walk, the mailbox/lobby area, the back entrance, the stairwells, the laundry room...everything was coated with a layer of grime that has to have existed since 1206. Touching anything was practically a science experiment gone horribly wrong. Speaking of public areas, the laundry room was such an agonizing experience that it was oftentimes preferable to just wear dirty clothes. The dryer ate $1.00 and left damp clothing behind, the garbage can was always stuffed full. I don't know why tenants insist on stuffing a 13 gallon can with detergent bottles until kingdom come...but everyone that did laundry in that building used the BIGGEST detergent bottles they could find and screw you if you wanted to clean the lint trap. And the landlord? Craig? He had two expressions: apathetic and apathetic. For nearly two months, one of the fire alarms beeped...every...30....seconds due to a low battery. I wish I were joking. Eventually, I ended up removing the battery just for some peace and quiet. And then, a month later, another started...IN SOMEONE'S APARTMENT. That happened. THAT HAPPENED. Oh right...and the building has a secure entrance. Each tenant gets a key. Nice, right? Except...there's no call box. At all. If you live in the front of the building facing the street, and you have a window open, you might be lucky enough to hear your visitor or UPS/FED-EX man at the door. More often than not, there is no possible way to know someone has dropped by. UPS eventually gives up trying to get to you...most times they don't even bother to leave a door tag. I *did* have visitors, though. They came in unexpected and unannounced. BEDBUGS. They permeated my apartment and caused a living hell inside that 400 SF space for a MONTH before the issue was remedied. ...Except...it wasn't. Not really. Pest control was called, and my apartment was ripped apart (baseboards ripped off the wall, socket plates removed, but the bedbugs remained until *I* paid $150 for a steamer and took care of the issue myself. I have no idea if they spread...I have a feeling they did because THE DRYER NEVER WORKED AND ALL MY LINENS WERE LAUNDERED A MILLION TIMES IN AN EFFORT TO STOP THOSE LITTLE VAMPIRES. All in all, this place owes me $460 for each of the 12 months I endured. Funny thing, that: I got a bill from them 6 weeks after I vacated telling me I owed them $10 for a stained carpet. Or stained something. I can't even recall...I keep trying to forget the year I survived hell ..but every time the name "Craig" comes up, I think I suffer some PTSD episode. I still have that steamer, by the way. If you do chance the move-in, hit me up. I'll let you have the damned thing."
