"My husband and I stayed a few weeks ago and I still find myself reflecting on our great experience at Jail Hill Inn. There’s no question why this is among the top-rated bed and breakfasts in the US and world. Matthew’s attention to every detail is unparalleled. From the room appointments to the food to the suggested activities and hospitality, everything is exquisite. The rooms: Absolutely beautiful. We stayed in 202 with the curved brick ceilings and high windows. The restoration of this room, and the entire property, is outstanding and was really done with the guest experience in mind. Everything is top-of-the-line, and the local sourcing of furniture and toiletries is a very nice touch. It’s clear Matthew cares not only for the Jail Hill Inn, but for the economic vitality of the entire community. The real, daily flowers in the room were the icing on top of the cake. The food: Incredible. We had dinner reservations within walking distance downtown but found the three-course breakfast and wine and cheese tray the best food of the weekend. We had dietary restrictions that were carefully considered and did not feel they compromised any aspect of our culinary experience. The hospitality: Unmatched. Matthew embodies hospitality and his compassion for guests shows in everything he does and is personified by the inn. The questionnaire we filled out ahead of our stay was clearly read and internalized, and as a result we felt completely heard, seen, and welcomed. The location: Excellent! Perched on a hill with great views while still within walking distance (1.5 blocks) of downtown. Parking is available right out front. Overall, we loved our stay and look forward to returning again next fall!"

"This was our second stay at Jail Hill Inn and it will not be our last! We're in love with this luxury B & B! Matthew Carroll the Innkeeper does everything right! His attention to detail, hard work and natural gift for hospitality is why Jail Hill Inn is exceptional. We stayed in a different suite this time (we're going to try being "repeat offenders" and stay in all 6 suites) and it was beautiful! The suite and the entire Inn was decorated for Fall...little autumn touches everywhere. The Inn itself is immaculate and very comfortable but what makes your stay special at Jail Hill Inn are the breakfasts and "snack trays". Every morning you start your day with a 3 course breakfast! Most normal humans would be quite content to enjoy one course of Matthew's breakfasts! Be prepared to never need to eat lunch while staying at Jail Hill Inn...you won't be hungry until the evening and that's when Matthew serves you a snack try consisting of fruit, crackers and cheese, savory mini bites, cookies, nuts and a bottle of wine or sparking juice! You can save it for a late night snack or enjoy it right away...one evening we sat on the deck enjoying our goodies in the crisp autumn air...it was perfect! We've told all of our family and friends about Jail Hill Inn and hope someday they can experience a wonderful getaway to Galena while staying at Jail Hill Inn. Thank you Matthew! Until next time!"
