“Motel/hotel close to Nottingham and Derby. Good sized room, and a fantastic price. Used it for an early flight from EMA. For the price, cannot beat it. Was a little noisy due to the road, but all in all, it was clean, handy and accessible. Would use again.”

“Good room layout, though could have been cleaner...paintwork on dressing table had had coffee or tea spilled on it, not wiped off. Ceiling of bathroom shappy around the vent. Other than that, comfortable and cosy. Great night's sleep.”

“This was a cheap hotel at £160 for 3 nights over a weekend and it was very easy to find, pulling straight off the A38 into the car park. When I arrived the lady on reception was very pleasant and even went to the effort of finding a new key fob and bringing it to my room even though I told her it didn't matter. She also helped me find my WiFi code on the email as I was too stupid to find it!! The rooms are basic but lovely and clean with a big comfy bed and large desk. My only suggestion would be if there could be plug sockets next to the bed but this wasn't really a problem as I could charge things at the desk. There is very little in the way of supermarkets within walking distance however there is a lovely canal you can walk along behind the hotel and it is less than a 15 minute walk to Barton Marina which has some lovely little shops and cafes including a farm shop. It was very quiet despite being next to a dual carriageway.”

“The stables went above and beyond our expectations. What a hidden treasure! We booked The Stables for a staycation beak as a couple and it was just everything you could hope for. There is honestly nothing we can fault. We booked Room 2 which also comes with a wooden hot tub. The room itself was large and spacious. Very well equipped with everything you need, including high quality products for the shower. The bed was like a massive cloud. We both slept so well, and even better was the fact the room had blackout curtains and blinds so there was absolutely nothing to disturb us. Set an alarm if you need to be anywhere haha. The hot tub on the balcony may look small but it’s actually quite deep and is very well positioned so that it’s not overlooked and is incredibly private. Just sitting there with an ice cold glass of wine in had listening to the rain fall was so relaxing. For our first nights stay we ate next door at The Bowling Green Steak House. Highly recommend you book a table in advance as its one of the best restaurants in the area so you won’t want to be disappointed. Other things that I would have to commend them for is the small perks like room service via the app. And Netflix on the Tv in the room. All small additions that make such a difference when you’ve been out for a good hike in the peaks. We must say that the staff also are so friendly and welcoming and just can’t so enough to make your stay comfortable. Absolutely lovely. There is parking onsite right outside your rooms. The Stables is located from a short walk into Ashbourne so you’ve got local supermarkets if you need them, plus pubs, clothing stores and restaurants. We visited The Little Shed where we had breakfast. It also serves an afternoon tea which looks good. If you’re into fine dining we would also highly recommend The George at Alstonefield as was had an exquisite 9 course tasting menu. The Stables is also located within a 15mins drive of Dovedale which is a stunning place for a proper Peak District hike. We will 100% book here again when travelling to the peaks.”

“Went to Amand's restaurant located in the International Hotel. The restaurant is beautifully fitted out and has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The service from the staff was very professional. They are clearly well trained. The food was very well presented and excellent quality. Overall well worth paying that little bit extra.”

“Rural, and very quiet location. Accommodation is a modern, clean and warm extension to an historic building, with excellent pool and gym. Friendly staff and an excellent breakfast.”

“Went with friends for the Festive Menu and we were delighted with the meal. One of us had Salmon which was cooked beautifully and thoroughly enjoyed. Two of us had the Turkey, it was a delicious meal with generous portions, vegetables cooked to perfection, roast potatoes absolutely gorgeous, and the turkey was succulent. Thoroughly enjoyed and clean plates all round. A varied Dessert menu provided us with difficult choices, we all chose differently. I had an amazing apple crumble with gingerbread ice cream, heavenly. My friends had cheesecake and Christmas pudding respectively. Ambience and service were first class. We all agreed, an excellent experience and looking forward to going again in the very near future.”
