"Fabulous experience from start to finish. Our kayaks were ready and waiting when we arrived. You do have to wheel them to the river yourself which is no problem but thought that information would be helpful. It’s a 2 mile trip to the landing. Then it’s a 1 mile hike to the falls. We opted to do the hike barefoot which was fun. It’s not very strenuous but there is a river crossing. The boardwalk was nice. The waterfalls are incredibly beautiful and we all went swimming at the base. The entire trip took us 3 hours - but I imagine could take longer depending on how fast you paddle and hike. We preferred to go at our own pace therefore did not do a guided tour."
"Fantastic experience with Michael, our tour guide! He was very considerate of the entire group's experience level and made sure everyone crossed safely by providing walking sticks. He also took amazing photos! He made this experience worthwhile and memorable, and is the main reason this experience is worth recommending. What was not fantastic was the booking and customer service team. There was a lack of communication and responsiveness. We got a text at 5:48am saying that kayaking was cancelled due to "bad weather." All weather forecasts pointed to a sunny morning. Three groups showed up at the meetup point at the original time because the cancellation was so hard to believe. There were also no weather warnings issued by the island for Wailua. They asked us to call at 8am to work through rebooking but we went to voicemail for the next 3 days. Very disappointing. See photos for a view of the weather. We also saw multiple kayak tours on the river at that time. We only managed to "rebook" by proactively paying for another booking later in the week. We never heard back about our original booking nor received any offer to rebook despite sending emails, leaving voicemails and calling everyday. For better customer service, go to Kayak Wailua next door. I called them up during this period and they were extremely accommodating, proactive and responsive."
"They cancelled on us twice for a 7:15 am unguided kayak trip to the falls. The first time they notified us early in the morning as the conditions were unfavorable and thankfully we hadn’t left yet, it was a very windy day and we agreed it wouldn’t have been good to go that day. The second time they did not notify us and we showed up to find other people waiting and no one there. The other couples called the company and received no response. We also called and received no response. We wound up finding another company putting people in the water and they rented us a kayak which we were so grateful for. We did receive word later from Wailua kayak and canoe that they tried to contact us to cancel due to unfavorable conditions. It was a beautiful and calm morning on the river, absolutely perfect conditions."
"Great experience! We just rented a double kayak without a tour guide and it was perfect. We were able to speed up our trip a little and enjoy the waterfall and hike virtually to ourselves. Definitely doing this again when we return to the island."
"10/10 experience with Wailua Kayak & Canoe! I called first thing Monday morning and they were completely booked till Wednesday. After looking again for us, they were able to squeeze us in on a self-guided double kayak Monday morning before our flight. The kayak was smooth and the complimentary dry bag and cooler were so helpful. Would definitely use them again!"
