"This is a wet and adventurous excursion, with a refreshing waterfall at the end. You have to rent a kayak to access the trailhead, then beach it to begin the slog towards the waterfall. It's very wet and slippery, so wear clothes that can get wet and muddy. I wouldn't bother with a towel. There are a couple river crossings, so wearing closed toed sandals or water shoes are optimal. Don't wear flip flops!!! There are lots of rocks and roots along the trail and it's extremely muddy so it's a slow going hike, but very scenic with lots of lush vegetation. It's mostly covered overhead, so you won't battle the sun much except for the canoe ride. I recommend renting a kayak from Wailua Kayak because you can load your kayak in the water after a short haul and not have to strap it to your car like the companies across the river. Make reservations a few days in advance because only 200 kayaks are allowed on the river per day. You can make reservations online from their website."
