"Have been living at Sawyer apartments for a year. What stood out positively to me: - Micaela, the new building manager (also for the community over at Huck apartments) is friendly and helpful. She organizes community events on a regular basis and is listening to requests from the community (e.g., exchanging a light switch in the fitness area from motion detection to an actual light switch, as the light would constantly turn off during workouts...). - In general, the people working for YellowTree are nice, friendly and helpful! - The area the community is in is great. And depending on the apartment the view of the downtown MPLS area is amazing. The rooftop deck is awesome! Free street parking is available. - We mostly had a quiet time here (besides the loud HVAC unit). Things to improve: - The price structure compared to the amenities and the apartment sizing / quality is kind of a joke. The apartment sizing is on the very small side, a bedroom fits exactly one bed and nothing else. They even topped that in the newer building, Huck, next door, you cannot decrease sizing of rooms more, they are as small as possible. It is obvious that the owners try to sell little room for a high price. The construction quality is the lowest possible (we are the second or third tenants in our apartment, and all cabinet doors were skewed). We had a spot in our living room that froze (ice crystals on the flooring) due to the bad construction, the AC unit is loud and annoying. - We were offered a new lease with a low increase in rent, which we declined as the rent was already high enough. After our notice to vacate they are now offering the same apartment for 250$ less to new tenants. I don't have to state how greedy this is, as we would have stayed for that lower price! - The garage door broke 3 times (so far) and it was fixed very poorly (drilling holes besides existing ones due to bolts ripping out of the door wont fix the issue for long!). This was pointed out but sadly nothing has changed so far trying to fix it properly. I am giving two stars here in the hope that this review will change the view of the landlords / owners at least a little towards offering fair housing prices and better construction quality."
"Pros- -Great location with a lot to offer -Lots of free street parking Cons- -Literally everything else The cost to live here and lack of amenities is not worth the location. I lived here for a year and dealt with constant inconveniences due to the construction of their new building (about arms length away from the current building). Not to mention if you live facing the new building, you’re looking directly into someone’s window. Additionally, they kept most of my security deposit despite the unit being cleaned better than it was when I moved in ($130 cleaning fee). When I inquired about it, I just basically got a “oops sorry for the surprise charge!” The garage has very few spots with tight spaces and corners. I damaged my car multiple times trying to fit into the microscopic parking space they charged $150 a month for. Mind you, I was on the “waitlist” for a new spot the entire time I was living there, even though I know good and well spots opened up and were given to new residents. Overall, I would avoid. There are much better properties in the area."
"Very helpful with my move! I move from out of state and didn't get to tour any apartment's. When I received my keys I noticed there was a different apartment that better suited my needs. Taylyn helped me make the apartment change a smooth and easy process!"
"The price for these apartments is way too high for their neglect, dishonesty and lack of amenities. I moved here for the location and because the management prior to the building being bought by Yellow Tree was great. For transparency as you read the reviews, two of the five start reviews are from the building managers. After the building was bought out, there was construction for a year on the new “Huck” building and no compensation for current tenants. Construction delayed me for work and changed the view of my apartment from being able to see the sky to seeing into 8 different peoples apartments. The new building and all the other new developments in the area is going to make 2nd st a nightmare to drive down, live on, park on, etc. The compensation they offered after the fact was a 500 concession and not raise my rent, but this was not enough. My bike was stolen from the garage presumably due to the garage door being frequently broken. When I brought it up to them, they told me the garage door was no longer broken, but when I went to pull in after work the same day the door was still broken. I had a similar experience when the door to the rooftop was broken on several occasions and I was unable to access the rooftop. Upon moving out I was charged with a $150 cleaning and painting fee after I left the apartment completely cleaned and with very few nail holes. Normal wear and tear after living in an apartment for two years, which is what was stated would be covered in my lease. When I inquired about this I was given no real answer and when I asked what needed to be cleaned and why I was charged this fee, they did not reply to my email. All concerns major and minor were given an excuse or brushed off without a solution. Saying “I understand your frustration” anytime one of these aforementioned issues was brought up with no solution or financial compensation is not enough from a management company. I lived here for two years. The positives are that there is a beautiful view of the city from the roof and great walking paths to the river and restaurants. There are a lot more negatives, unfortunately."
"Beautiful & charming community! The building and area is always taken care of really well and clean. You can't beat the location! Best area to live in Mpls in my opinion. The staff are super friendly, especially Taylyn and the maintenance man!"
