"I lived here for only 6 months but have to say this place deserves a good review. In my 20 years of being a renter I've never encountered a better management company. John actually seems to care about his tenants and the buildings he manages. Those are actually rare qualities in a landlord/management company and it genuinely surprised me how great the management here is. They have a program to help tenants build credit by reporting rent payments to credit agencies, which is an impressive gesture considering how much time it must have taken to set that up and also considering lots of rentals don't even bother to do this when it could be such a benefit to so many renters. No matter how spotless or pristine I've ever left an apartment I've never gotten my full deposit back within 30 days of moving out with the exception of inmotion properties (Brownstones Downtown). Not only that they also put my deposit in an interest bearing account, like they're supposed to according to state law. You won't believe how many rentals never do this and instead just spend your deposit or try to keep it for bogus "cleaning fees" etc. I got my full deposit back 2 and a half weeks after moving out and it was for the full amount and one penny over. I wondered where the penny came from and realized it was because they actually put the deposit in an interest bearing account while I was a tenant! Whenever I had any issues with the apartment John was quick to remedy it and they have an after-hours maintenance service so you always have a way to get anything dealt with in a timely manner. I also have to mention that the laundry units (washer, dryer) here actually work! Like all the time! They use an app to load money onto them and operate them and the app for the laundry ACTUALLY WORKS! lol you wouldn't believe how many of these new laundry rooms these days don't work or how many times I've gotten clothes ruined or wasted money on laundry machines that don't work at my previous apartments but the ones here never failed me! The neighborhood itself is surprisingly chill for being downtown. You're only a 15-25 minute walk away from just about everything central Minneapolis has to offer. They're not perfect but management does enough things right that it makes most other property management companies look bad by comparison."

"Despite some issues with my unit when I moved in, I must say that John and his crew have been nothing but awesome. Responsive, kind and professional. There are many quirks to the building as it is an old building but maintenance issues are fixed quickly, neighbors are respectful and quiet for the most part, the common areas are kept clean, and for the price and the location, you really can’t beat it. The management makes this place great. Not perfect but a good option for young folks or people that want an affordable option that’s close to the action."

"Love it here in general. 3 buildings that make up the Brownstones Community (buildings 500, 501, 508). Each building has 3 floors, 10 rooms/floor (varying between studios, bedrooms, 2 bedrooms.) affordable, and awesome view of skyline! My only con: delivered packages sometimes stolen…we have tiny mailboxes (and no on site management) so if it doesn’t fit inside, it’s left in our mailroom and unfortunately things can go missing. Street parking (and handful of assigned spots in alleyway but you need to be on waiting list) Great place to liven downtown :)"

"Lived here for 2 years. Great location just south of the heart of downtown, .5 mile walk to US Bank Stadium and 1 mile to Stone Arch Bridge. Pretty quiet area for being downtown, spacious units, and maintenance is always pretty quick. The one downside is the parking situation, but that is mainly due to the fact that the City of Minneapolis sells more critical parking passes than they have spaces. Other than that, this is a great place to live and I'd highly recommend it."
