"I’ve lived at Allen House Apartments for almost a year now so I feel like I can now provide an honest review. Built in 1974, the property is in a safe neighborhood in North Montrose/River Oaks area near the Buffalo Bayou Park and trails, only about 10 minutes from downtown. It is also close to all the shopping and eating options one could ever want. Now, because it is an older (and more affordable) property you can’t expect brand new appliances and upscale features. That being said, there are many cute built-in shelves and such inside the units, the courtyards and pools offer an abundance of cozy charm and plenty of community grills and outdoors space. The staff in the leasing office are all very considerate and responsive, always happy to help when something is needed, especially Leon and Braxton. What matters most is that when there is a maintenance emergency due to outdated fixtures and what not, someone is sent rather quickly. I had a water leak before 6 am and someone was there to assist within 15 minutes and the issue was entirely resolved by early afternoon. Israel is an expert at his trade, and I trust him in my home anytime. It is a very pet-friendly community, and the area is safe to walk the pups with many stations for poop bagging and disposal. The staff at Allen House seem to truly welcome and care for our pets, almost as much as we do! "
"It was a great experience to live in Allen House. Leon was very helpful during my stay here, he is a great part of the management team! Both apartments I lived here were such great places, I recommend it if you are looking for someplace low budget and located near the city, then this is a great location to start with."
"It's been almost 2 years since I started living at this apartment complex. Overall, I genuinely enjoy living here. The community, the leasing office agents, maintenance team, and overall environment are wonderful. I specifically would like to thank Leon, the leasing consultant, who has been very caring and is always there to resolve any issues I have with the apartment. Leon consistently went above and beyond expectations, ensuring that every aspect of my living experience is positive. Highly recommend!"
"Allen house is located in a very nice neighborhood, full of boutiques, restaurants, bookstores etc... there is also the Buffalo bayou with nice places to visit or just for a walk. The construction of Allen House is very beautiful, it has a lot of charm and personality. The apartments are spacious although unfortunately not very bright. Regrettably, the buildings, apartments and common areas have been deteriorating, receiving little maintenance. In the patios there are almost no green spaces, which would be essential and would also contribute to the charm of the buildings, especially where the gazebos and the pool areas are as shown in the photographs. In the apartment hallways tenants should not be allowed to place lounge chairs and tables for them to ‘hangout’ - it is both an obstruction, a fire hazard and a nuisance to the rest of the neighbors, and it makes the whole structure seem like a tenement building. Otherwise everything is more or less acceptable and it is worth living here!"
"you couldn't pay me to lease here again. they'll put your health and safety at risk and still expect you to pay out the nose for your death-trap apartment. mgmt neglected water damage we reported in our balcony ceiling for A YEAR AND A HALF until the CEILING CAVED IN and SPILLED BLACK MOLD all over the balcony. our health was at risk and our laundry inaccessible. they didn't repair it for TWO MORE MONTHS and STILL WANTED THE FULL RENT AMOUNT. absolutely disgusting. the place is overrun with dog feces and human vomit in the carpeted walkways, which they won't clean up even if you report it. you might pay for a parking space, but the office says they refuse to enforce it because they don't want to pay for towing. the apartment quality is trash, too; they've resurfaced the bathtubs so many times that the paint chips away after a few months' use. safety rails outside are for decoration only. our carpet was clearly used when we moved in, but no holes or stains so we didn't say anything. now they've presented the carpet as a move-out charge, saying it was new. it definitely wasn't, i showed picture and video. the invoice they provided as "proof" shows that either they use the cheapest shortcuts possible, or that they're willing to falsify invoices to squeeze more money out of you. either way, these folks have no scruples and do not care about you (except for braxton, thanks for being the literal only helpful office employee) edit: i forgot to mention that when they repaired the ceiling, they didn't remove all of the black mold, so within a few months it had seeped back out through the new sheetrock they'd put over it. that means our health continued to be at risk despite their very, very delayed efforts."
