"Wow. Wonder if they are running a reduced rent special if you post a phony review to Google. No way any renter would rate 5 stars after any time actually living at Smartland. TLDR: DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! I came here to check after reading the news that another person was shot & killed at this intersection. Wow, I'm so glad we escaped 2 months ago. We moved in and noticed the gas station (where the majority of the shootings happen)... what we were not told about was the absolute chaos that would ensue every single Friday & Saturday night. Cops show up shortly after 330am to clear out the 40-60 cars crammed in the lot, playing the most vulgar music on the worst sound system. Somehow, they never come in time to catch the car club crew, who favors this intersection for tricking out. I was always worried they would hit our building or, worse, the gas station pumps. They crashed twice to the art school across the street in our short stay in the overpriced prison cell. Ok, so those are the biggest environmental complaints. I don't have time to list every single issue with the property itself. Let's see what matters most: We had a leak in our ceiling... falling down to our floor at least twice, starting in January. They sent 2 people come look between then and March... it was still not fixed when we left in May. The cute looking atrium... is literally a green house & gets up to 110 on an 80+degree day. Oh... and during our move out. The main exit door was stuck closed! Fire hazard Supreme. I couldn't even open the fire exit door... and I am a strong woman. When we came back, the minimal safety feature that was the back door w fob key access was completely dismantled. Anyone could come in... but that was kinda the norm, since doors were often proped open. The security camera we have no idea was functional or monitored was dangling off the wall for the last two weeks. They bribed us to stay... I wouldn't have stayed if they paid me. I REPEAT DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME... OR RISK YOUR SAFETY/SANITY!"

"Toured 3 apartment buildings today with Alex. Although all 3 buildings were nice , I'll be putting my app in for Body Block Arcade. All were newly renovated , but Body Block Arcade was almost right downtown. Except cheaper and free parking"

"I was excited to move ! However that quickly changed literally days after I moved in. There were piles of garbage left all over the parking lot. So many transient folks just hanging around the building or hanging out in the building. I had a bullet go through my window and took the maintenance 3 months to fix in winter. The floor in my unit sloped bad. When they evicted people they would just pile their belongings outside. The washer and dryers were broken. Then came the bed bugs. My neighbor had a massive infestation of bed bugs that made their way into my unit. The management team could not be bothered by this to the point where I had to go to their offices to beg for anything to get done. After a some back and fourth they came out and sprayed once of course that didn’t do much. I ended up breaking my lease because it went on for over a month. So naturally I lost my deposit and they tried to make me pay extra for “the damage” I did to the unit. Mind you there was none. I fought it and eventually won. I didn’t have to pay extra but I did lose my entire deposit. I lost everything. At the time the manager was extremely rude often talking down to me and overall extremely unprofessional. I honestly don’t understand how she had a job there. The building was beautiful, the upkeep of the building terrible, the management team at the time abysmal. I will never rent from Smartland again. They are greedy and just want your money. This property is a dump."
