Mellmanor Apartments

"I have lived here at Mellmanor for over a year and when I first moved in my apartment needed a lot of work. Both of my toilets needed a complete overhaul, both bathrooms needed new cove base, I was missing a cutting board, and a few other minor repairs. Today my air conditioner had a leak and needed a new filter. Both the repair and filter were addressed on the same day. I never have to wait long for ANY maintenance issue. The parking is adequate and a short walk to my door. I'm 64 and that's important for me when carrying in groceries. My four grandkids come over often and love swimming in my pool which is right next to my apartment. My mail box, trash dumpster, and rent "drop slot" are all a two minute walk from my door. Mellmanor is tucked away from the main drag; Fletcher Parkway, and therefore is very quiet. My neighbors are all very quiet. Lastly, Mellmanor is within a 5 minute drive to the Grossmont Shopping Center which has all the major stores and a multiplex theater. Mellmanor is a 5 minute drive from CVS Pharmacy, Von's Market, Ahi Sushi, Denny's, BJs Restaurant, 7-11, Albertsons Market, and Shell Gas Station, all of which I use weekly. I have had an excellent living experience here at Mellmanor and I hope to live here indefinitely. I have now lived here for almost 8 years and Mellmanor has pretty much become my home sweet home. I have planted deep roots here. My brother-in-law Randy Smith lived here with me for 7 years and was handicapped. Mellmanor management managed to get him a parking space close to our apartment. Randy was like a brother to me and Mellmanor management and maintenance were very kind about Randy’s sudden passing on August 13, 2023. Randy’s sister Sandy and I are roommates now. Anyway, my two youngest granddaughters and my grandnephew come here every summer to swim in a wonderful pool, that offers shade under a rubber tree, open restrooms, benches and tables, and a double grill gas Bar-B-Que that my daughter-in-law enjoys using. In past years, my grandson and oldest granddaughter visited me often to swim in the pools at Mellmanor. Management has changed, and gratefully so. Our not so new anymore manager Barbara, is a total professional with and very approachable personality. She likes the happy noises kids make when they are having active playtime right outside our windows, just like us oldsters do. It’s the sounds of the future. And there’s always a regretful “but.” Life isn’t perfect, but it should be at least reasonable. I am a 72 year old man on a fixed income. The sky-rocketing grocery bills are my number two expense. But the real financial inflationary hardship for Sandy and I, is having my rent increase well over $100 every year. I wish there was a moratorium for one year. To compound that financial burden, a new 400% increase in my monthly water charges has been added to our monthly statement now supplied by an “outside” firm, plus….paying for Sunrise’s previous overhead regarding their sewage and trash, and for a first. These sudden increases are very tough on Social Security and Medicare recipients. This is home to me and my roommate now and we could maybe handle a marginal increase in rent. Last year’s rent increase will hopefully not be repeated in 2024. It spoils Christmas us. We say nothing to our kids or grandkids. They enjoy coming here and we love having them."

The greatest was always Ms. Josie, the property manager, she knows everyone by name and kept an open line of communication for any questions I had. Could not recommend this location and manager enough!"
