The Avalon Hotel

"We had such a wonderful time at the Avalon and we are so glad that we chose this hotel for our first stay on Catalina Island! We were greeted by the friendly staff Wendy and Daniel and they were amazing. Such great hosts made us feel like family! It reminded me of the old way of doing business where the owners and the staff really cared about you and your stay. From what I understand the owners are on site almost daily And you can tell! The hotel has been there since the early 1900s and it has been renovated a couple times apparently but the renovation is fabulous! Everything is new and rebuilt like they did it in the 20s . The attention to detail was amazing. Our room had a beautiful view of the harbor. One thing we noticed was that the hotel was so quiet you couldn't hear anyone else in the hotel! They had a wonderful continental breakfast every morning out in the garden area with the waterfall and the fish swimming. Absolutely fabulous. They treat you like family and they say once you've stayed there you are family. That's why we'll be going back as soon as possible! The Avalon hotel is a must stay hotel on Catalina Island. Whatever else you do on Catalina make sure that you go to their rooftop! We met Michael the maintenance man up there one night. We had a wonderful conversation and you can tell why the hotel is so well taken care of with employees like Michael, Wendy and Daniel! Plus, they have a top notch cleaning staff. We met a couple other employees while we were there but I am so sorry forgot their names but that doesn't take away from the fact that they were fabulous all of them. And the hotels complimentary taxi service was a great bonus! I would gladly hire any of them for my company!"

"What a gem. I’ve been going to Catalina since the mid 90s and stayed at several of the top properties around the island; however, this hotel stands out compared to the others. The owners are amazing (and wine night was such a delightful surprise!), and the rooftop terrace was a great spot to quietly enjoy the island. Breakfast was perfect in the courtyard as a spot to enjoy before heading out for the day — and the property is very centrally located. I highly recommend the property."

"We had such a wonderful stay at the Avalon Hotel. Evelyn and the whole staff were so friendly and helpful. Great location, comfy rooms. The package including ferry and taxi was so adorable. Nice breakfast and we appreciated all day fresh fruit and coffee. Will definitely return!"

"I read a review about how majestic this place was, it simply just didn’t do it justice. The room was prepared beautifully, I highly recommend an ocean view, you go to sleep and wake up to beautiful views like nothing else. The staff was incredibly helpful even before we arrived, they had a bottle chilling in our room when we arrived along with a nice card for my wife’s birthday. Everything was super clean, beautifully curated, and comfortable. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay, I can’t imagine many other places have both a garden patio with a fountain and a rooftop deck. The location is is perfect for complete accessibility to everything around Avalon. We’ll definitely be back."

"We stayed in room 301 with an ocean view. It was a magnificent view with a private walk around balcony. You could see the ocean and the bay through the porch doors - where the bed is facing. The room was spotless and the beds very comfortable. Nice furnishings and the bathroom gorgeous and very clean. I loved the old feel of the entire building. No elevator so plan on taking the stairs with your bags. The sun filtered through the trees on the breakfast patio and you could hear a fountain in the background trickling as you ate. Care was taken on the presentation of the breakfast items. The staff was very professional and helpful. They stored our items as we ventured out after checkout and the cleaning staff brought my makeup bag down after I left it behind. A beautiful location where you can see all of Avalon and close to everything. Will come back again someday."
