"Very nice hotel, but a bit overpriced for the condition/age of the rooms. Food is mediocre. Staff is especially nice and very accommodating, which makes up for any downsides."

"I used to be a regular at Shutters but then had a number of service mishaps that drove me to other properties in the area, most often the Fairmont. But I decided to give it another try. It's a famous property in Santa Monica on the beach, an amazing location, and a great place from which to enjoy the culture and sites of the area. I stayed in a lovely suite with a balcony and, although their material claimed it had a beach view, that was an exaggeration. It was actually a view of the parking lot and you could barely see the beach. Unfortunately, I once again had some service issues with the specifics of what was supposed to happen for a special event, which I had outlined in two-way electronic correspondence which they had confirmed. The manager apologized and was very diligent in trying to remedy the situation, so I will give them credit for that, though the communication error among their staff that caused this service mishap was a hotel management 101 mistake and not what I would expect from a true luxury brand. From the standpoint of a recommendation, I still recommend the property for its on site services and location. I do feel that they are committed to high quality service, but somehow I've been unlucky and am personally not motivated to try again. I've had no such issues in my last visits to the Fairmont Santa Monica, which I would recommend more highly."

"What I liked...Cutest rooms, wonderful and friendly staff, location is excellent, house car is convenient, pool and pool side areas are wonderful. Proximity to the pier and restaurants.. Disappointed that.. The person who took the in room dining order was very rude and sent up wrong dish that I didn't order. Uncomfortable encounter with the beach activity staff, he inquired about our accents in not very pleasant way. Billing errors. The toilet flush had a weird algae like odour similar to what we smelt at the beach"

"What a charming property. We travel to Los Angeles every year for vacation, and my wife asked for me to find a place on the beach to mix up the Weho monotony. We were very happy with our stay, to say the least. The room was very nice and clean. The small balcony had a view of the ocean and was just big enough for both of us to enjoy. The restaurant was very good as well. We enjoyed breakfast and lunch with them. Make sure you try the pancakes. It's definitely worth the money to stay here. We will definitely be returning. Thanks for a great stay!"

"everyone at the Shutters was just the best of top notch warm hospitality that came naturally - you could tell they served with a passion and the were happy about their jobs. the restaurants, the lobby/ bar - just where you want to be! our room has views of the pool and the beach - and I just wanted to stay in it all day - the bed, the excellent bathtub, the bathroom amenities are by Diptique (look it up!) - just perfectly wonderful."
