"My review is for Kenny, Kevin and Issa who work for Liv Lavender, the owners. I went out to my car today and could not get out because it was so covered in snow. I asked to borrow their shovel that they had and two of the men came over and helped me themselves for such a long time. They were so kind and did not stop until we got the car out and cheered when it was free! I was so grateful to them, I couldn't have done it myself."
"If I outlined all Harbach's positive aspects, my review would be too long. Lived here 1.5 years now. The property manager, maintenance lead, and owners go above and beyond. The property manager has texted me back within 10 minutes, maybe, 10 times, regardless of the hour. Not that she should be expected to. Once I reported a leaky faucet spout and they let me pick out a whole new faucet and installed it within 24 hours. The owners help decorate and take care of the grounds. The interiors are high quality and the aesthetics spot-on. The common areas are great for meetings. Sound does travel a bit inside, but I find tenants to be responsible and friendly, so it has never been an issue. I think street parking is fine, but I lived in Chicago where it's common to park a couple blocks away. Cute dogs and super clean everything. There are even scent machines in the lobbies that get changed by season. I don't think I want to leave until I stop renting."
"We love living at Harbach and would highly recommend for any renters looking at downtown Des Moines. We are in the pet-friendly B Building, and we've had nothing but great experiences having a dog at Harbach. For the most part everyone cleans up after their pets, there are no noise issues, and it's great to have other dogs to meet. The apartment itself is great, they're in really nice condition after the renovation, and we love our exposed brick and the polished concrete floors. I never want another kind of flooring again! Would love a gas stove, a bathtub, and some outdoor space attached to our unit, but minor trade-offs for the convenience and quality. There is space available for storage in the basement at very reasonable prices, and they have a dog-washing station and bike maintenance station down there as well. The outdoor patio and grill area are kept clean and well-maintained, and they are a great place to relax and eat outside during the warmer months. The A Building has a common space equipped with TV, couches, and a kitchen. There are tenant events held inside and out throughout the year to build community. There is paid parking available, but I've parked on the street without major problems so far, although the snow route plow schedule can be a bummer. Parking gets a little tight when the Iowa Cubs play, but on the flip side, you don't need to fight for parking to go a game, the Science Center, or the Farmer's Market. St. Kilda is a huge bonus too! The owners and management have been excellent throughout our stay, and they provide excellent service to their tenants. Things are just about as hassle-free as anywhere we've ever been (and we've lived in seven apartment buildings in three cities together). The only reason we would move out is to buy or move out of town!"
"I lived here for several months before moving for a job, otherwise I would not have left. Best apartment complex I have been in by far. Owners really want to make this a top spot downtown, and make sure all tenants feel welcome. The price is extremely reasonable for downtown. Management is amazing. I had a thermostat break one night, and I was expecting them to get there over the next couple of days. They sent someone that night! Great location. It is within walking distance of court and 300, but not so close that you have the noise issues. Parking is a breeze as well."
"Great location in downtown Des Moines. The building and units are very unique with a ton of character. The owners and manager are always around and spend a lot of time continuing to make improvements on the property. They know most, if not all tenants by name and really value feedback in how they can make things better. Walking distance to many bars, restaurants, HyVee, etc. Top floor unit has high ceilings, was very quiet and had great views. Minutes from I-235. Excellent spot for anyone new to the Des Moines area or wanting to live downtown."
