"Very lovey-romantic (I was not on a romantic trip). It's Union Square, so comes with all that Union Square is: luxury shopping, noise at 5 am, and a dude urinating on you if you bury your head in a phone too long. Points off for my room being very cold (but otherwise comfortable), the actual temperature wouldn't go above 66 °F despite me setting the setpoint as high as 74 °F with HEAT ON. The restaurant is simple and decent but you're sure to find most exciting food nearby."
"Disappointing stay. The breakfast we paid extra for when we booked the room was mediocre and not worth the money at all. The water pressure is not great, and hot/warm water is almost non-existent. The toilet made a loud, obnoxious sound every time you flushed it. The T.V. remote was also not available in our room but luckily there was an app to control the T.V. Those issues I could have looked past, but to make matters worse, our room lost power twice in one day, and the first time the guy at the front desk seemed indifferent and didn’t apologize for the inconvenience or offer to move us to a different room. It’s as if this has happened before and he didn’t seem shocked or surprised at all. He just sent a maintenance guy up who eventually fixed the power, but later that night we came back after a night out for NYE and realized the power had went out again. By now it was after 1 in the morning and instead of unwinding and going to bed we had to go down to the front desk yet again to sort this out. This guy was at least a little bit more sympathetic but there was no maintenance guy on hand this time and they just sent a security guard up to figure it out. (He was really nice and tried his best). Unfortunately he was not able to bring the power back on. Once again no one at the front desk offered to switch rooms, but since it was already after 1 in the morning we just called it a night because at that point it just wasn’t worth the fight. It was our last night there so we weren’t even able to charge our phones for the long 7 hour drive back home. I am currently writing this review in the car on 28% battery. In the morning they did cut down the price for one night and apologized, but at that point they should have just given us a full refund for one night. I will not be coming back and will not recommend this hotel to anybody. Location is good and overall the staff was pretty friendly, but my stay was not comfortable."
"Title: Disappointing Experience at The Barns - 225 Powell St I recently had an unfortunate stay at The Barns located at 225 Powell St and feel compelled to share my experience. The list of disappointments seemed never-ending. 1. **No Hot Water:** The absence of hot water made our stay uncomfortable and left us questioning the basic amenities of this establishment. 2. **Inconsistent Room Amenities:** While our friends' room boasted a mini fridge, ours lacked this basic convenience. It's disheartening when the same hotel offers different amenities in different rooms. 3. **Frequent Power Outages:** The power disruptions were not only inconvenient but also highlighted a concerning lack of infrastructure stability. 4. **Brick Wall View:** Our room faced a brick wall, providing zero sunlight and a claustrophobic atmosphere. A disappointing view that greatly affected our overall experience. 5. **Mysterious Door Knocking:** Two instances of someone knocking on our door, only to find nobody there, left us feeling uneasy and added an unsettling element to our stay. On a positive note, the location is convenient, and the bartender, despite appearing a bit disgruntled, showcased excellent skills. If you do choose to stay at The Barns, make sure to tip the hardworking bartender generously. In summary, The Barns fell short on several fronts, making it difficult to recommend to others based on my recent experience."
"I gave this hotel over all 3 star just because of the room and its condition. The room was clean and moderately stocked. I didn’t appreciate that there was no microwave. The ac would not work at all. Someone came when we requested and didn’t speak a word of English so we have no idea what he was saying was wrong or what wasn’t. There were exposed wires and extension cords everywhere. Our children are older but it would be a big no no for small children. We couldn’t open the fridge without literally tipping it over. The door it seemed to be sticking. The plantation shutter were broken. Now despite all of that the location is literally a stones throw from union square and a few minutes walk to china town and the stop of the cable car is literally in front of the door. The service was beyond amazing. I wish I knew the names of the amazing gentleman and lady who served us. We appreciate you! You made our stay definitely so much better. The bartender and the breakfast guy who called everyone sweetheart were all friendly and very hospitable."
"If you're thinking of staying at the really large corporate Mausoleum of a Hilton find out first if they have any availability here because this place was truly a gem so different than the larger Hilton which is only two blocks away. The quality of the rooms the quality of the service the quality of the location it's all an upgrade from the other one so find out if they have space here first. Or ask for an upgrade only they don't think of it as an upgrade they think of it as like a poor relation but truth is this is a far nicer, better rate and more hospitable atmosphere then the mega hotel of Hilton properties."
