"My daughter and I had a great experience at this hotel. I loved the old charming San Francisco vibe with wall papers and old furniture. The room was clean, bright and welcoming. They include breakfast and wine hour with snacks. The location is exceptional, across the street from the Golden Gate Park, stores and amazing restaurants. There’s also a public garage a few steps away. We felt safe and the staff was great. After reading a few negatives reviews here I was a bit skeptical, but I have to say that it exceeded my expectations."
"We stayed at a family suite; the rooms were clean and spacious. Breakfast was decent. However, our suite faced Waller Street, not the park, and there was a big construction site on Waller Street. I was disappointed; I booked Stanyan Park because it was right across the street from Golden Gate Park, but all I could see was the construction site. The building is old, so we could hear steps upstairs and the talking next door. The toilet could not fill the water tank by itself, so we had to prepare a bucket of water to fill the tank."
"Stayed here recently. The location is great. The staff are nice and helpful. The layout of the hotel is quirky and fun. The beds are fine but rooms are a bit dated, which either fits with the general decor by intent or is just a function of time. The internet was wildly unreliable. It would work for long periods, allowing video, and then just stop working for several iterations on the order of minutes. I realized that I needed to forget the network and then log back in with pass:Tea…. It happened in my room and the lounge. Normally I wouldn’t care but I needed it for work. In the end, I would stay there again. I am never sure how to star things. Ps… works well for UCSF. 0.5 miles with a hill."
"Great location and a fine stay, but we had some issues with this stay. Pros: Great location, super quiet. They ended up giving us a huge apartment-like room for 4 guests. Cozy breakfast area and breakfast was provided. Cons: Our apartment-like room was super drafty and a little bit creepy. It looked like an older apartment that was converted into a hotel room. To access it, we had to go into their courtyard to get to the room, which had a mysterious dark hallway. The street noise was fine even though the other side of the room was facing the street. The biggest complaint here is that a few days after the booking, I noticed a $200 charge. I called in to ask about the additional charge and I was told by a non-manager it was a damage fee. I asked for more details and they let me know it looked like damage to a chandelier and the roll-away bed--but to confirm they would have to connect me to the manager. The manager was out for the weekend, so I tried again the following week. After many calls to the front desk over multiple days, the manager was always busy or did not return my call or email. I could not successfully talk to the manager about this alleged damage, which I know we did not commit because we're respectful, well-traveled guests. In order to get more details on the damage or to settle on a resolution, I had to speak with the manager but alas, he was nowhere to be found. I disputed this on my CC -- beware!"
"My friend from out of town booked the hotel but as a locker space. Everything went well, and we picked the luggage up but my friend accidentally left her bag. My friend later called once she realized and they said that they would hold onto her bag. The next day we come to pick it up and we realize (after we had left SF) that someone had taken about $200 out of her wallet. Nothing else was taken except for the money. The concierge answered when we called and said probably a homeless person came in and took the money. Really? Gave us the "managers" number which was a phone number that doesn't work with an extension that we couldn't even get too (Because the phone number doesn't work) Don't book here unless you would like to get robbed. Oh & VERY much took advantage of the fact that they were an out-of-towner young girl. EDIT: I see the response by Bill. (Not sure how to respond to it) Yes my friend got the voicemail and she has called for the past three days to no response. :) Bill - she sent you an email as well. If you say you can look at the security footage you should really just do it to clear the hotels name. She left her bag around 2AM - but your employees can tell you that."
