The Gilmore Apartments 6 South McLean Boulevard, Memphis, TN 38104

"Things that happened while I lived here for a period of a year: my car got stolen out of the "secure" lot because the parking lot gates were broken for the month. Even now that the gates are fixed, they are open a lot throughout the day, so I wouldn't say the parking is super secure even though the gates are no longer broken. My neighbor at the time that I moved in told me her car insurance was dropping her because her car windows had been smashed too many times to keep making claims. The entire building was out of natural gas (no heat, no cooking, no washer/dryers) for 3 months. Although we didn't have to pay utilities during this time (about 6% of total monthly cost), they never cut rent any to compensate. In lieu of a rent decrease they provided occasional pizzas and McDonald's for dinner and thanked us for our patience. Also v annoying they were *constantly* texting/emailing about water is out or gas is out or something is out or messed up. While I guess this is communicative, it would be even nicer to live somewhere where I don't have to be constantly updated about what is broken. Another thing I didn't love was getting to smell cigarette smoke in my apartment on a weekly basis because one of neighbors smoked cigarettes inside. The complex told me they are not legally allowed to tell people not to smoke cigarettes inside and that effectively I just needed to deal w it. They also had an issue w bed bugs on a few floors at some point in the year so I feel really lucky to have not been affected by that. Giving it a 2 because the apartments are really cute on the inside and truly all the people who work there are super nice and professional. I think the main issue is with whoever works above the people at the desk and the general location. Also I killed a few roaches when I first moved in but they do have weekly pest control you can request and I never had any issues after that. Rent is cheap but in hindsight I should have lived somewhere where I didn't feel sketched walking to my car at night and/or had secure parking."

"I’ve lived here a year now and it has been the best experience! First off it’s very affordable and within a five minute drive of everything. The staff is absolutely terrific. They respond to any issues very quickly and are so nice and professional. The neighbors truly care for one another and it has an Italian deli in the lobby. You can’t beat this place!"

"Let me just say that if you are looking for an affordable, safe apartment complex where the management staff takes excellent care of their tenants, look no further! I have been living here for almost a year and have had nothing but positive experiences. Very inexpensive rent, walking distance to many midtown attractions.. what more could you ask for? 5 stars for the Gilmore!"

"Older building that has some character, but that's what makes it cool. The building is very well taken care of and in a great location. Off street parking is super nice, and the rooftop view is something you won't find anywhere else in midtown. Management cares about the building and creating a community among the tenants."

"I have lived at the Gilmore for almost a year now and it is fantastic! The studio apartment I have is the perfect size for my dog and I (They love furry friends here). There is so much storage space in the studio that I had no problem getting everything settled in. It's in the perfect location (walking distance from Overton square and Overton park) and a short ride to downtown. Plus the rooftop is the best place to watch the sunset or pass the time reading a book (you can even see downtown Memphis)! The staff is excellent and really responsive to their resident's needs, I am always greeted with a friendly smile by staff members! The Gilmore is absolutely my favorite place to live in Memphis, it is secure, has a very unique vibe, and a warm and welcoming community!"
