Holiday Inn Memphis-Downtown (Beale St.), an IHG Hotel

"Don't be fooled! I have stayed in several Holiday Inns and have always have a great stay. Not this time!! Valet (an automatic $27 a day charge) was the only good service provided during our stay. Front desk staff were not only incompetent but they were also rude. The lobby, restaurant and bar were freezing cold. Our first room was boiling hot and got up to 98 degrees because the heat was stuck on!! After we explained 3 times to the lady at the front desk that there was absolutely no way we could sleep in that room, they did move us to another room. The second room was not 98 degrees thank goodness! The lights didn't work, the plug ins didn't work and the phone did not work. The bar was never opened and looked very poorly stocked. All in all the worst hotel stay I have had in a very long time......and we travel A LOT!! Not up to standard for a downtown hotel!! Spend a couple of extra bucks and stay at the Hampton!! "This hotel is very dated. So are the photos they post on their website. The photos don’t show the current condition of the rooms, hallways, and elevators. The likes of which are extremely old, dilapidated, and worn. We had to switch rooms three times because of varying issues. The one we ended up with still wasn’t stellar. The location is excellent and the customer service is pretty great despite all of the other issues with the hotel."

"I had made reservations 3 months before arriving. When I arrived the lobby was flooded due to pipes bursting. There was no water or heat and the temperature outside was 17 degrees. I tried to wait it out to see if the maintenance could fix the problem. I went to the room and the thermometer read 62 degrees. After sitting there an hour it went down to 59 degrees. The only person that showed any concern was Danielle the HR manager. I ended up having to go next door to another hotel to find a room. So I ended up paying $200 more dollars than I had planned. Oh, it was also pouring water in the elevators. They made no arrangements or even tried to."

"We loved the location of this hotel and have stayed here before, the staff is amazing and so friendly, but the rooms could use an update. Ours anyway, it was cramped, beat up, and definitely needs to be replaced. Something was running all the time that was very noisy as we slept. The air/heat was turned off so I’m not sure what it was. It wasn’t like the room was awful, it is just in need of some tlc. I still recommend this hotel but ask for a bigger room and see if they are working on the renovations."

"After paying about $400 for one night . Woke up to the bathroom flooded because of the AC unit drain pan. So apparently it happens a lot. Called the front desk they did not do nothing about. Had to catch a cleaning lady in the hallway to get the maintenance man. My wife’s make up and everything she had on the counter was soaked. Asked the front desk about it. The girl working the front could not care less. Didn’t say sorry for the inconvenience or anything. Didn’t offer money back and let’s see if they actually give me extra points for this. Pay that much to stay one night and couldn’t even shower in the morning. I use IHG a lot an I can say I won’t ever stay there again for downtown Memphis."
