"Apartment we signed for was completely different than model that we were shown. All of our appliances, floors, and walls had damage. Walls and ceilings seem paper thin - we can hear every single step of the person above us and everything through our walls. Extremely loud pipes bang on the ceiling and walls constantly and ownership does nothing to resolve after 5 request to fix. Hidden fees get snuck into the Contract too so read well!! Parking lot has massive potholes where the sewer has sunk into the ground. Light fixtures burn out lights no matter what voltage they’re rated for. The cherry on top? The heating has no real effect no matter how high or low you set it. Extremely frustrated and disappointed."
"Initially dealt with Jada when going through the initial leasing process - she is the GOAT. My neighbors were pretty chill too. A few things keep it from being a 4-5 star: 1. They were doing renovations in my complex and my internet lines were cut and I was without it for 2-3 days. Luckily my job keeps me from home so it was hardly noticeable. They were also gracious enough to get it restored by Spectrum 2. Maintenance does take their time with responding to issues but when they do, they are a great staff and in my experience, friendly 3. Having to pay $20 for non covered parking kinda sucks too."
"BEWARE!!!: Potential Hidden Costs and Misleading Practices at "INDEPENDENCE GREEN APARTMENTS " Upon moving into this apartment complex, I encountered several undisclosed deficiencies (photos attached). While I promptly notified the management via email, my concerns were completely ignored. This raised concerns about potential dishonest billing practices. For prospective tenants, consider these hidden costs: Excessive utility charges: My summer heating bill came out to $150, an absurd amount compared to my previous apartment (larger and poorly insulated) where my heat rarely exceeded $100. Unidentified fees: You'll encounter charges like a "Utility Security Deposit," $20 parking, and questionable items like "CAM -residential," inflating your monthly rent to a staggering $1264-$1600. Inconvenient fees: Even paying rent incurs a $50 "convenience fee," making them appear like predatory merchants. You can only imagine the amount of the groceries that would get wasted and thrown inside of 20 years old fridge because they refused to replace appliances for new one.... Unprofessional behavior: Selective review responses: They only publicly respond to fabricated positive reviews, seemingly written by staff on fake accounts. Negative reviews are conveniently ignored. Callous eviction attempt: Despite paying rent and a hefty "utility security deposit," I received a demand for possession notice without any prior communication. When I questioned this unprofessional act, I was coldly told "it's a business." Refusal to cooperate with legitimate financial support: After informing them that the Michigan Disability Network/Veterans Support (a government agency) would cover the remaining balance, they refused to provide a W9 form, citing "fraud prevention." This claim seems dubious, considering government involvement would likely bring increased scrutiny to their finances. Overall, this apartment complex exhibits deceptive practices and a clear disregard for tenant well-being. Please avoid making the same mistake I did! Pay attention to their web site, they have got over 50 unit is VACANT!!! because they're known for hidden charges, and robbing people with no gun!!! Top of stealing my security deposits they came up with move-out bill(see attached photo) I have signed a lease for $1264+ utilities but I have paid over $20k for rent and utilities to them within 11mo!!! A word of caution before jumping at those 5-star reviews at INDEPENDENCE GREEN APARTMENTS. While some may be genuine, a noticeable number seem suspicious. Look closer, and you'll find accounts with only one or two reviews, often praising the same specific details. This pattern hints at potential inauthenticity, possibly even originating from management. Instead of solely relying on these questionable reviews, consider digging deeper: Search for reviews on other platforms to get a broader perspective. Look for patterns in negative reviews, as they often raise valid concerns. Focus on reviews with specific details and personal experiences, rather than vague praises. PLEASE DO ME A FAVOR AND REPORT THEIR FAKE REVIEWS SO THEY CAN GET A GENUINE REVIEW SCORE THAT THEY DESERVE!!"
"I have lived at Independence Green for a little over 6 months now - I wanted to wait to leave a review so I had enough experience to write about. I moved in without reading any of the reviews - if I saw them, I probably would've looked elsewhere. However, my experience has been better than most of the negative reviews I see here. For anyone seriously looking to move here, this is my honest feedback. Pros: - Location: close to the freeway but no noise of cars. Request a room with a view in the back of the property - I LOVE my windows. -Washer/Dryer in unit: this is one of my biggest priorities - very few apartments in the area have them in unit for a 1bed/1 bath. -Cost: There are more fees/added costs than I was anticipating, but the overall cost for my rent is comparable to other apartment complexes in the area. -New carpets and appliances: may not be the case for everyone, but I had new carpets, refrigerator, and oven when I moved in. -Parking: there are always open spots Cons: -Safety: It is very dark. Many of the buildings do not have lights outside or in the hallways and there are NO streetlights. I put an old desk lamp in the hallway outside of my unit so I feel safer, although maintenance has unplugged it when they are in my building. I do not feel unsafe on this property, but I am always very cautious at night when it is dark because there is little light. -Bugs: I've had this problem in previous apartments I've lived in, but I notice myself killing between 1-3 bugs per week in my apartment. I've seen a truck in the parking lot for pest control, but not sure if they actually do anything. -Maintenance: My first month living there, I had my washer, dryer, water, stove, light break or stop working. Maintenance does not respond quickly, and when they do, they don't always fix the problem. After the first 1-2 months, everything is now working and I haven't had other problems (besides my constant complaints of lack of lights) -Neighbors: this is not at fault of Independence Green, but I do have neighbors that play loud music, smoke cigarettes and weed that I can smell in the hallway and if my window is open. -Lack of communication: Most of my calls/questions to the staff in the leasing office is not answered or ignored. They are hard to get ahold of and don't provide solutions/help. Luckily, I haven't needed them for too many issues but I can't imagine this would improve if I did need them.. Overall, I do not regret my choice to live here. I am very close to my work and the location is great for me. Because of the negative experiences, I will not be renewing my lease after the next six months, but if you need a place to stay, Independence Green is a fine option for a short-term apartment."
"I lived here for over 5 years Do not rent here. Place is old, and small. AC units are too small to keep your apartment cool, and break after being overworked for too long. They put "building heating" on your bill, but there is no way you pay 150 dollars for water, and gas, and the lights for the building in the middle of the summer. Its a scam 100%. Had a small hole that needed to be patched in my bathroom (the toilet paper holder came out of the wall). I asked for it to be fixed, and instead of plastering over the hole and attaching the holder to the drywall as it was previously. They opted to put a particle board "patch" over it, and pretended it was fixed. The cap it all off, My rent was raised 25%. My bill would be $1,500 a month for an under 500 square foot apartment. When i confronted them about how they were advertising this same apartment at $850 and i wanted to negotiate. The property manager ghosted me. Avoid this place at all costs. You might get lucky and not experience how horrible they are in the first year, but give it time and you'll wish you hadn't moved in."
