"Do not rent from this man. He keeps your deposit and doesn’t follow Florida laws for landlords! He takes advantage of people and talks down to you in every conversation. He’s a slumlord. He doesn’t do pest control and even had bed bugs, doesn’t update the units, the common areas are never cleaned, he does the trash removal HIMSELF and charges a trash fee…just to name a few. DO NOT RENT FROM HIM!!!! But if you do, only communicate in writing, take *detailed* before and after photos of the apartment, do a walkthrough before and after and have John (the slumlord) sign it and keep a copy, send everything certified mail so it can be traced."
"All I did was inquire about an apartment, and this man John was so disgustingly rude over the phone that I would never rent from him, no matter how cute the apartment is, how nice the neighborhood is, or how low the price. If that's how he treats a potential tenant, I'm sure that once you're living there he is unbearable. If you're seeing this, John, thanks for letting me know from the get go what an awful landlord you must be."
"I previously lived in a ran down shack with broken a broken air conditioning. It’s true that John is a notorious liar and I had to threaten legal action various times in the past. I received deduction on my deposit for juvenile things like a light bulb being out. The place was filthy when we arrived as well. However, John has a way of trying to make people feel like he’s doing them a favor and my roommate and I were in a time crunch to find somewhere to live. Leaving that place was the most relieving moment of my life. Please don’t live under the landlord if it is in anyway possible."
"Owner is not professional in dealing with return of deposit money. I throughly cleaned the apartment & he claims that he had to have his guy clean up after me. He also charged me for broken blinds that were aged & old. They were cheap blinds & half broken before I moved in. He charged excessive hours for his guy to supposedly fix things after I left. My recommendation is to find another place to live. Run ..."
"I would be remiss if I didn’t let people know that they should under no circumstances rent from this man. In the wake of vacating my property the landlord, John, is unreachable and when you do get ahold of him his reasons for not returning calls or texts (which are his preferred method of communication) are always different and varying in levels of believability. I have been in contact with him for over a month now in an attempt to get my security deposit refunded to me, he dodges attempts to contact him, hangs up on you when you get him on the phone. And makes up every excuse for why he hasn’t sent you your due money. I realize there are deductions to be made for the amount, regarding chewed blinds and air filters, however it should not in anyway cost the amount you have to pay initially in the form of a deposit, to live at one of his properties. There was an issue with the sink that I informed him of prior to dropping off my keys, which he ignored. And a couple days later when I realized I had forgotten to leave a forwarding address I was once again ignored when I reached out. After two more weeks of hearing nothing I once again tried to contact him at which time he chose to tell me he didn’t receive a forwarding address and I had left the apartment in terrible condition. To which I replied that I would once again send him my new address and a video of the apartment after I had cleaned it on my day of move out. I expressed to him that I understood there would be deductions to my initial deposit but he would need to provide an explicit and reasonable list of these deductions as well as the remainder of my deposit amount. He responded “Will do.” And another two weeks went by with no news, I turned to my father for assistance with this matter, and when he called John, after a brief run-around and change of story once again, he hung up on my father with no preamble. My dad later texted him telling him how rude he was, and that if we received no further communication from him regarding this refund, that we would take legal action. He responded saying he would be in contact the following week when he returned to the office. That following week after no word from John, we once again reached out, and he once again made up an excuse saying he would need a few more days to get it sorted. I have every belief that this man plans on keeping my entire deposit and will do everything in his power to avoid contact. I’ve written a complaint to the BBB and would strongly discourage anyone from renting any of his properties as he is rude, unreachable, and will probably take any money he can from you. I don’t wish to take legal action, but it has gotten to the point that with everything going on in our society today money is not something to be taken lightly, and I don’t want someone else to be a victim of this slumlord. I have never written a review for google regarding good or bad service , but the atrocious manner with which this man conducts business is not something to be ignored and anyone who considers renting from him should seriously consider my experience before they do. Times are tough I get that, and money is tight for anybody, but as this is money that is legally owed me at the completion of my lease, taking into account REASONABLE deductions, I feel I’m well within my right to speak out about it and help keep others from becoming victimized by him. I would also like to point out that, the only two “good” reviews for this property are from a man that works for John, and that man’s wife or girlfriend."
