"We are renting a cabin through air Bnb in Towamensing Trails. The cabin is beautiful and our host is wonderful, however, we will not be back to visit this community. We went to the pool today because the lake is closed due to high amounts of E. coli. The staff are NOT friendly. They are continuously yelling at pool-goers for literally having fun. One thing after another, they’re yelling and rude. When you’re paying REALLY good money to stay in what seems to be a nice community, you expect to be treated with respect. Won’t be back. Definitely recommend renting a place not in a community like this."
"Overall, really nice place to go and get away. The area mad small patches of trees and an abundance of wildlife. The area is quiet and great to walk around. It’s a neighborhood so there’s numerous stop signs and speed limits of 15-25 mph that everyone seems to follow. The area felt very safe and there were multiple times police officers were driving through the area. There’s a pool and a lake in the community, both are which small. We visited the beach and it was fairly crowded but enjoyable. The pool was absolutely freezing and must have not been heated. You also had to bring chairs to the pool which was not specified in the vacation rental agreement (but not a big deal). The one strange thing was the last day we were at the beach a thunderstorm was coming in. Everyone was still in the water and playing. There was a lifeguard on duty but she didn’t evacuate anyone out of the water when it started thundering and lightning. It seemed like she just wasn’t paying attention at all."
"My family and I have been coming up here since 1988 when my dad first bought the lot and started building the house. Our street then had about 5 houses on it. Now our street has about 18. Although I feel that the houses are too close to each other now with not that much privacy, I will say, my neighbors are very friendly. Everybody says hello as they walk, drive or ride their golf carts on by. And for that reason is why I moved here... Honest to god....it's like freakin Disney World...well without the rides and you don't have crazy characters hopping and skipping around you singing "zippididoodazippidi aye" You do have a kinda crazy but funny haa haa not funny like a clown character like me running and chasing my goofy never listen to a word I say dogs around the neighborhood because somehow, never fails.... They escape the baby gate. Sorry off subject.... Anyway... This community is 1 in a million. I love the beautiful scenery. I love how there are seasons. My favorite is around middle of September when the leaves start changing. The colors are amazing. The overall atmosphere is breath taking. You should come and see for yourselves, just take it in, breath the fresh mountain air. I guarantee you will never wanna leave. ..."
"I'll start by saying the lake and community are beautiful but I have to agree the people who work in the "teepee" are some of the rudest people I have ever met. My experience started with the owner sending me an invoice for $100 dollars more for a security/cleaning fee than my lease stated. When I brought this up, he apologized and said due to covid 19 the cleaning fees have gone up, he refunded me $30 of the $100 extra. I want my family to be safe so I didn't make a big deal out of it. He then sent me an email with links to all the Rules and regulations of this place. I have 3 little kids and work full time, I will be honest and say I didn't get to read everything, it is A LOT, and I missed where it said you could not take your own personal boat out on the lake unless you are a property owner. I called the main office and explained I was renting a cabin for this coming weekend and asked about boat rentals. They stated the boats only hold up to 4 people, my family is five, so I asked how much it would cost to register our own boat.. I was told $10 dollars per boat. That was Great news! I called back again and spoke to another woman who I asked if we could rent life jackets if we bring our own boat. She literally got upset and demanded to know "who told you that?!" I told her no one did I was just asking if we bring our own boat can we rent jackets, she said no we would need to supply our own. No one mentioned we had to own a home in the community during either conversation. My husband and I purchased a blow up raft and 5 life jackets so we could take our kids for a ride on the lake. I have a 7 year old, 3 year old and a 20 month old so we did not want to rent 2 separate boats. We go to the "teepee" to register our boat and I had a question about the wrist bands. I'll just say it got ugly. We were told we could not register our boat because we are not property owners, it did not matter I called twice, they just do not care. The woman in the window just kept saying "the property owner should have told you that", over and over again. After arguing and pleading our case I got nowhere so I just wanted to ask about why I had 2 different colored wrist bands, was one for the pool area and the other for the lake? She just kept saying there are dates on the bands and would give no other explanation. I guess they must have run out of one color band so used a different color for our last day... Or maybe the separate color was to alert them it was our last day? All she had to say was there was no difference, just different colors. By this time another woman came over, who I guess was a supervisor, and just informed me "we are done here." I've been a manager for many years, not exactly how you fix a situation but again, they just don't care if you come or go. For the money I paid for a 2 night stay I would definitely have gone elsewhere. I don't really understand why they won't let renters register an inflatable boat or keep a couple boats that will hold a larger family for rent, we were pretty upset and so was my 7 year old. As for the beach, it's small and there is only one. If you have young kids go early or it gets really crowded. If you have more than 2 little kids I would definitely recommend going to a neighboring lake."
"As a property owner in the Towamensing Community while it is a beautiful place to visit, the reason outsiders may not get a warm welcome is because far too many "visitors" come here, throw their trash all over our property/community & disrespect the owners. My children & I go for walks picking up others trash. Far too often the "visitors" being too lazy to take their trash bags to the proper area, throw them on the road on their way out, where the animals scatter their trash every where leaving those who live here to pick it up! If you want to enjoy a quiet, tranquil, environment with lots of wildlife, this is a great place to visit. Just respect the land & where you are!"
