"Party of four, we just spent 5 nights at this hotel. I am going to start by saying that I am a former front office manager for a Marriott property in Boston and this stay was the furthest from Marriott standards that I have ever experienced or offered to other guests when in the position. We booked a QNQN, at check in we were given a king. No problem, we went back to the desk and they moved us a few rooms over to a qnqn. At check in we were asked if we wanted to receive housekeeping service while there for the 5 nights. Yes, we do there are 4 of us, we would like full service. The rooms are mediocre- def outdated for a Marriott property, uncomfortable beds, curtains were not straight- bunched up at the top, the lamps shades and the bar were all bent and deformed with stains on the shades (room 104 by the way), the hot water was in consistent the water would randomly go cold in a 10 minute shower, the bathroom had someone else’s hair on the floor around the toilet and brown stains on the wall in between the toilet and the shower. We got no housekeeping service our second day. We went to the desk, they apologized said full service would be every other day and in between they would come in only to give towels and change the trash. Ok, times are changing with covid and what not- that is totally understandable, no problem. The next day, no service. The following day no service again, we went and asked for it and they made one of our beds because we had a bag and a few items on the other (no problem about the bed), but only half the trash was taken out and there were no towels. So we went to the desk again. “I’m so sorry tomorrow you will get service”. Nope. Finally its the night before check out. We want to shower and get ready to leave. No towels. We went to the desk. This was the only and I mean ONLY positive interaction I had with any member of the front desk team- I will elaborate on that next. She was extremely apologetic, she gave us some Red Bulls and ice cream for our kids from the market for the inconvenience and quite honestly was the only one with any sense of customer service or empathy. Any time I approached the front desk, nooone acknowledged me (aside from Sunday evening). I would wait for front desk agents with AirPods in their ears to finish their conversations with each other, or to even show up from the back office to the desk. Breakfast was decent, lots of options, a hot buffet with cold options as well. Grab and go options and lots of different beverage options. The tables were clean and the breakfast area was always manned with someone smiling and happy to help. Check out was just as bad- I left my sons back pack in the room and I needed to get a new key made to go get it. That was apparently a hassle too, lots of miscommunication, one person made me 2 more keys like I was staying for another night while another walked me to the room to get the bag. Two times throughout the stay I asked for a manager, two times was given a “they just left” excuse. I read previous reviews- it seems like any time a booking is through a 3rd party website they have this issue. The only reason I booked third party and not direct was because it was a package and for leisure. Not that it should matter, every guest should be treated the same. Honestly, Marriott should be ashamed that their name is on this hotel."
""I strongly discourage staying at this hotel, as it does not offer a satisfactory value" The room we stayed in was permeated with an unpleasant odor originating from the bathroom. When we contacted the front desk, they informed us that there were no available rooms for us to switch to. Instead, they attempted to alleviate the issue by cleaning the bathroom. However, the odor remained, and although we were uncomfortable with the situation, it was too late in the evening for us to find alternative accommodations. The following morning, I raised my concerns about the odor with the front desk, and their response was a simple apology. Unfortunately, they did not inquire further to better understand the issue or seek opportunities for improvement. As a result, I recommend against staying at this hotel, as it does not meet the standards one would expect."
"Upon check-in at the hotel we were given room 506. Once we got to 506 to check out the room, it was already preoccupied with other guests. When we went back to the service desk to tell them of the issue, they kind of seemed shocked. They even asked us if we went to room 509 instead of 506 and I clarified that no we went to 506. She didn't seem to believe us and had to check for herself. Once she came back she apologized for the mix up and blamed it on some sort of computer error. We were then assigned room 502. We dropped off our luggage and then proceeded to go out to dinner. When we got back to our room around 930PM and we started to unpack we realized the TV was not turning on regardless if you use the remote or the button on the TV, secondly the toilet would not clear the bowl without doing 3 flushes. So then I went down to the front desk to make them aware of the issues with our room, and I was told their was nothing they could do for us at this time. They told me if I wanted any sort of reimbursement that they are not able to help us since we booked using expedia. I would not recommend staying at this Marriott. We have stayed at other Marriott hotels that are actually held up to a standard room and staff wise. Wish we would of booked the Holiday Inn across the street instead. (We've stayed at Holiday Inn and had great experiences)"
"I travel for business. I spend 100+ nights a year in hotels. Small issues can happen at any hotel, but I have never had such a poor experience with staff in my entire life. From staff sleeping on the floor in the office, to staff not knowing proper protocols, to management telling my colleagues that items aren't malfunctioning in their rooms its user error. It is by far the worst hotel experience I have ever had in regard to staff interaction. On the positive side, Rooms were clean (I had to stay in two rooms during my 2 night stay due to issues). Breakfast was included. Breakfast staff was super friendly and attentive. In general the entire hotel is clean and presents well."
"We stay here to visit Salem. It was a great location, less than 30 minutes' drive to Salem. Rooms were fairly clean, and the staff was friendly. They offered free breakfast and had a variety of selections. The kids enjoyed making their own waffles. It's located next to a Dave and Buster and a shopping center. The entrance is a sharp turn it would be helpful if they had some sort of lighting to be able to see the entrance at night."
