"It's peaceful to sit & eat lunch. Fish & turtles are in the water. Ducks are sometimes there. Lots of lovely birds landing in trees. Nice to walk about."

"This little park in Dubuque, IA is really nothing special to look at. It consists mostly of a grassy area and short trail. The trail goes most of the way around a small slough. The slough was full of litter: discarded plastic bottles mostly, but all kinds of other human generated detritus spoiled the experience of this park. I do not blame the park for this, I blame inconsiderate and ignorant people for this. If you litter in this day and age, shame on you!! Pack your trash out!! On a positive note: luckily we were there as the white pelicans were passing through and we got to see a dozen or more of these noble birds swimming in, and flying around, the slough. The juxtaposition of these majestic birds swimming in and around the filth of humanity was a poignant reminder of our fractured relationship with the natural world. The presence of the pelicans raised my rating of this park from two stars to three. A rail line runs parallel to this park, and just across that rail line, tantalizingly out of reach, is Dubuque's lovely riverwalk. It was just yards away, across the tracks, but alas, was unreachable. Perhaps in the future Dubuque will work with the railroad to build a pedestrian crossing and join Maus Park with the river trail. Then joggers and walkers could access both areas. That, and a good cleanup, would make this little spot a five star experience."
