Situated a tenth of a mile down the North Pier Trail, Battery Hambright offers a glimpse into the military history of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Visitors can explore the empty interior rooms and enjoy views of the Savannah River's North Channel from the gun parapet. The battery was camouflaged by a thick wall of earth for protection from incoming artillery rounds. While not part of Fort Pulaski, Battery Hambright was connected to Fort Screven on Tybee Island, which had a total of seven batteries for coastal defense.
