Battery Hambright
About the Business
Battery Hambright is a historic military site located at Fort Pulaski National Monument in Tybee Island, Georgia, United States. This Endicott-era battery was constructed in 1899 and completed in 1901, named after officer Horace Hambright. Although guns were never installed, the battery was designed to hold two 3" guns for coastal defense. Situated a tenth of a mile down the North Pier Trail, Battery Hambright offers a glimpse into the military history of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Visitors can explore the empty interior rooms and enjoy views of the Savannah River's North Channel from the gun parapet. The battery was camouflaged by a thick wall of earth for protection from incoming artillery rounds. While not part of Fort Pulaski, Battery Hambright was connected to Fort Screven on Tybee Island, which had a total of seven batteries for coastal defense. For those interested in military history, a visit to Battery Hambright and the Fort Screven Historic District is a must.

"Nice the rangers very open and willing to share the history. Old forts like this are just amazing. Reminds you of how unlazy the previous generations were. Lol. I cannot imagine workers today being willing to put in that effort."
"Definitely worth the walk!! Views are gorgeous and you feel like you stepped back in history!!"

"Cool historical remnant part of Fort Pulaski, I couldn't get into the building the I was here due to flooding around the low lying grass area it sits on."
