Toyota Service

"After leaving a very positive review three years ago, I regret to inform the Toyota community that the service standards at Toyota of Poway have greatly diminished. My main complaint has to do with recommendations for service that my car does not need. My new service advisor continues to list items on the inspection report that have recently been done. For example, fluid changes are recommended well before Toyota’s recommended service intervals. To change it more frequently is throwing money away. The last time I had the oil changed on my 2018 Toyota Highlander, I was told that I needed an engine air filter. I was told they could install one for $25. I declined. When picking my car up, I changed my mind. I went to the parts department. They wanted to charge me $30. I then went to my car to install it, and the old air filter was in very good shap, and certainly did not need replacing. I was also given a list of recommended fluid changes on my 2006 Toyota. All of them were recommended to be changed, including the long-lasting engine coolant, which had, within the year, been replaced when I had the timing belt and new water pump installed. I decided this time to contact the Toyota Brand Engagement Center, with a promise that the General Manager at Toyota of Poway would be giving me a call the next day. It has now been a week, and I still have not heard back from Toyota of Poway, even after calling the Toyota Brand Engagement Center a second time I’m beginning to suspect that Toyota of Poway doesn’t want my business anymore. I can accept that. I just want Toyota, as a corporation, to know that, in my mind, the Toyota brand has been severely diminished and compromised, because of my service experiences at Toyota of Poway. It is so disheartening to not be able to trust Inspection reports. I count on the Toyota dealership to know my cars better than anyone else. I guess I was wrong. Greed seems to have won out over customer loyalty. Although I live within walking distance of this dealership, I will not be returning. Trust is lost, and no one seems to care. Can someone recommend a good service center in the San Diego area where they have had good success? —Thomas Kurtz"

"Have been with them for 10+ years for all my Highlander maintenances. I have no complaint on their advisors and the services. Writing this would like for you to know they have started charging extra 3% service fees since Nov. 2023 if you use credit cards to pay for the repairs, like me. That's also why I deduct one star out of 5."
