"After living here for almost 3 years, I would strongly advise anyone against choosing these apartments. My biggest problem is the lack of consistent air conditioning--part of the "charm" of this old building is there isn't central heating/air. Each apartment has 2 old wall units installed that only exist on one side of the apartment, making half of the place cool and the other humid and uncomfortable. My units have been an issue the entire time I have lived here. They regularly have errors on them and the amount of times I've had workers in my apartment to work on them is outrageous. This past summer was nothing new. Units not working, constant errors, and owners/a maintenance man who absolutely drug their feet to help me. I finally lost my patience and had a complete meltdown on the phone with the owner who insisted he was "doing everything he could" for me. (His bright idea was to move me into a different unit - causing massive inconvenience to me - instead of just fixing the issue). At the time, they were getting me by with a portable AC that cooled about 15% of my 950 sq ft apartment. Around Memorial Day we were have over 100 degree weather. It is absolutely unacceptable that the owners had me living like that and told me there was nothing else they could do. The portable AC unit kept causing my breakers to trip, causing me to lose power continuously (10-15 times a day). The owners had no solution for this, so my 72 year old father came to my apartment, got down on his hands and knees, and connected a power cable so the portable unit wouldn't trip my breakers anymore. The owners should be ASHAMED. That was the job of their maintenance man, not my father. I pay $1100/month to live here, have never once missed a single month of rent or been late, and the ONLY thing the owners could do for me was offer a $200 credit. That is absolutely pitiful. Also - they claim to provide water, but they are constantly turning it off without warning, like this afternoon while I was doing laundry. Not to mention the complete lack of security -- 2 cars have recently been stolen from our parking lot and there was a homeless man sleeping in our shared laundry room. Do not move here! So many other cool old places around town, if that's your thing."
"I'm going to rate 5 stars compared to OK omaha who I previously rent through. So to go on what others said on their reviews. Wifi is awesome handles everything I got and more. I've been here 3 weeks and yes people leave stuff in washer/dryer but I've never not been able to do a load. Everything is nice here the apartments the stainless steel appliances the courtyard the claw foot tub. Chuck has been nothing but pleasant and friendly. Owners are from California but are very open and caring people. Highly recommend The Lancaster!"
"I lived here for two years and enjoyed the beautiful wood flooring, big windows, and historic charm of these apartments. They are spacious and very homey, and I enjoyed living here for the most part. However, if you are thinking about living here, there are some downsides you should be aware of. The apartments are next to a manufacturing plant and a very busy road, so there is constant noise and frequent construction. The radiators are ancient and also noisy. The apartments have not been upkept as much as they should have, considering how much potential they have. The previous management company (Wistar) was just alright, but the new management company (OK Omaha) are total slumlords, impossible to get ahold of, antagonistic, and tried to illegally withhold our deposit without any details on what our damages were. We had to threaten them with tenant union action for our deposit back. Please make sure if you rent from OK Omaha you are familiar with tenant law, and consider joining a tenants union so you aren't completely screwed over."
"1. I hope you like roaches, crickets, and ants. Yes, roaches. Apparently they had "never had a problem" but let me tell you. One night last spring we came home from game night at my brother in law's house around 11 pm. I turned on the lights and no less than 10 roaches went scurrying under cupboards and furniture. We immediately contacted the property owner, who was (rightly) appalled and said they'd fix the problem ASAP. Unfortunately, nothing happens on the weekend so, of course, we had to wait till Monday. We went through I think 3 rounds of pesticide to get rid of the roaches, and thankfully winter came an they haven't been a problem. 2. Property management is a joke. They don't do ANYTHING to the street during the winter. Or the parking lot. Thankfully Chuck, the racist old man who acts as a superintendent, scoops and salts the sidewalks. If you have an issue with, say, the plumbing, you likely will have to wait a few days for it to be fixed. Oh they'll probably send a plumber out within the day or so, but he'll leave right at 5 pm whether it's fixed or not. So you'll have to wait another day or two until he comes back or another person is called. They turn off the water randomly for hours, sometimes, you'll get an email in advance to warn you. 3. The walls/ceilings/floor are PAPER THIN. Do you like listening to your neighbors' music? Smelling their pot? Listening to them walk/move furniture/talk? Do you want to listen to your neighbor flush the toilet? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then you'll LOVE this place. 4. There is NO A/C. The boiler/radiators work great in the winter, but just you wait until June hits. You might be thinking "oh I don't mind the heat, it'll be ok!" and you're WRONG. There are two (2) small over the window A/C units, but unless you like forking over $200/month or more for electricity, then it's not worth it. You'll be uncomfortable from May-September, I can guarantee. 5. The neighborhood is T R A S H. Do you like listening to music from people across the street who have a LIVE BAND OUTSIDE for someone's birthday? No joke, we had to call the police, it was so loud. Better yet, would you like to have your tires stolen/trash left on your car/be afraid to be out after dark? I wish I were exaggerating, guys. 6. We paid upwards of $900/month with utilities and whatnot, and I honestly cannot tell you how the people who live there manage it. They are the scrubbiest, most unfortunate group. You'd think you were paying less than $500/month with the quality of your neighbors.Or maybe that's your kind of crowd, you do you. 7. THE WIFI. Okay so when we were touring the building, Chuck mentioned that they offer wifi for like $30/month and it works great. So we were, naturally, like hell yeah that's awesome. They don't give you your own router, they just boost a signal from god knows where. Know what that means? The whole building is using the same wifi! Know what else that means? It's slow as S H I T. We couldn't watch Hulu or Netflix without constant buffering, and forget trying to use it in the kitchen or bathroom! Oh but also, you won't get cell service unless you stand by a window. 8. Lol the laundry, I almost forgot. Okay so they boast free laundry (which is pretty dope, I'll admit), however, there are only 6 washers and 6 dryers for the entire complex. Almost every time I want to do laundry, I have to move someone else's stuff out of the washer or dryer (or both). They'll often leave laundry for days at a time. 9. On the plus side... free laundry, free parking (lol), locked access, pretty floors, decent location (like close to downtown and the interstate - neighborhood still sucks)."
"moving in July was pretty ok the first few months. So much construction in the backyard wasn’t completed for about a year after I moved in. Repairs are everyday except the weekends. You’ll hear power drills and commotion all day until around 6-7pm. They’ll turn the water off unexpectedly sometimes almost every other day for HOURS at a time to do repairs on the boiler room. I met the land keeper, he’s so rude! He came to me asking if I knew someone who lived here and which apartment was it instead of introducing himself. He’s one of the reasons I’m leaving just for all the harassment he has done to me. I introduced myself and told him the apartment I lived in. Every time he see an African American he stops and questions them. I get it he wants it to be safe but I wish he did that to everyone. Even another neighbor who is white said he thinks he’s racist towards black people. My mum and dad came to visit me once!!! My sisters, brothers & cousins hate to come over because they are so mistreated by him. I bought a fire pit for bon fires and got it approved through the apartment management for our Lancaster residents The land keeper comes out to our event while all of my friends and family are enjoying ourselves and said to me “ you can’t have this” I told him it was already approved and he stood there consistently harrassing us until someone from wistar answered his call waiting for their approval. The next day it was moved and I wasn’t able to find the pit until later that evening. I asked why did he move it he said he didn’t. But then said I needed to cut the grass. The apartment itself is nice but I have been here two years and I never ask for any kind of huge maintenance except for them to turn the heat up because it’s soooooooo cold and not isolated as it should be. There are times I slept at my mums house during cold weather because my apartment doesn’t stay warm. They do not come out to do maintenance problems and they charge you once they do. I wanted a light bulb changed in the sunroom because they have a special kind of light fixture that has to be unscrewed a certain way in order to get the bulb out. I called to ask if someone can fix it and the property manager said it’ll be a fee . I recently asked for a paint touch up on the walls since they are WHITE and they told me it’s my responsibility to do it since I’m planning on moving out in 3 months. I told them I’m still living here and paying rent and I want my apartment to be nice. My neighbors actually told me to request it since she did and was approved but mines was not because they want me to sign a new lease. I jus wish I was treated fair and just like everyone else. I was so excited to move here because I loved how spacious they are but when it comes to the land keeper and management I would not recommend anyone to live here. They are horrible at customer service and making you feel at home. I had so many problems living here and they don’t understand my frustration. It became worst when I fell and fractured my foot because maintenance sucks and they had to pay for my medical bills. I Sprain my ankle 3 times and fractured it once because of the alley potholes and sidewalks. I am a easy going resident. But I don’t like to be treated unfairly expecually when I have been dealing with all the maintenance and inconveniences & harassment that they put upon me. *bad area lots of violence and drugs and drug addicts sleeping around the apartment *vandelized cars in the parking area often and stolen cars *people hop the privacy fence to get in *bad management Please July hurry up! #movingDay #2years2many"
