Reviews of Turtle Site of Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park
"We are fortunate enough to be able to spend 5-6 weeks here in Kailua-Kona every 'winter', and while here make frequent trips to this amazing site. A few weeks ago we saw 12 different sea turtles over the maybe 1/3 mile long beach and lava flowage, and then on Friday (when the tide was high and the surf pretty active), we saw a mind boggling 21 different turtles here. Here are just 5 of them. Absolutely incredible !"
"A very beautiful spot and an amazing experience to see these turtles in the wild. Respect them and give them their space so we can continue to access this spot, if you don't the ranger will definitely remind you. The beach and view is just breathtaking. Very glad we chose this spot for seeing our first wild turtles. Harbour House restaurant is nearby(about 1/2 mile from beach). Fish and chips and Hawaiian beer to end the day. Would be nice to have a small level path for ADA access, although I do understand keeping the site as undeveloped as possible. It was a little challenging for my mother who has a walker but fortunately she was a trooper and made the walk out there. She needed assistance over some of the larger lava speed bumps in the path and occasionally resting and water breaks. But very glad she was able to make it and it will be one of the highlights of our trip."
"We might have just been unlucky, but we looked for green turtles all over Kona and couldn't find any. Kaloko went 3 for 3. Saw them there every visit. Beach was nice, and snorkeling was fun."
"Parking on the boat harbor side brings you closer to the bay, where we were delighted to spot over 20 sea turtles!"
"We have been twice, it is a lovely place. We saw 4 turtles on first visit, 2 turtle heads 2nd visit was at high tide sunset. Caution as trail can be uneven and as most rocky beaches at low tide can be slippery."
