Reviews of Wailele Cafe - OUTRIGGER Kona Resort & Spa
"Wow! What a special atmosphere to dine in. I enjoyed listening to the live guitar music while eating the chorizo peppers and mixed fried root vegetables. I recommend sipping a Hawaiian cocktail."
"First off the food is actually pretty good. There is exactly one vegetarian option, two if you count plain iceberg lettuce, or a side of white rice. Additionally the service was good. I recognize they’re probably understaffed as there were maybe 2 wait staff in the whole place, but they did a good job. It is however, wildly overpriced. I am a fan of fine dining, but these were insane markups even for Hawaii. Eating here really feels like you’re being exploited by the resort by only having one dining option in walking distance after 5pm. Additionally, I think the cafe might be in a temporarily location during renovations. That’s the only explanation for the ambiance, as there were a couple obviously temporary walls up inside the restaurant that made the acoustics from the live music very echoey, and generally lent the ambiance of a school cafeteria. Joe fully they turn things around when renovations are done. I personally would not eat here again."
"Friendly staff. It took a long time to check diners in during breakfast- somehow printing up a list of rooms with special details and charging privileges like other hotels wasn’t possible. Hawai’ian Music Camp and groups may have stretched staffing levels. Breakfast buffet overall was OK, but not the best value for the money. Scrambled eggs were spongy not fluffy. Plain fried rice (no vegetables) or steamed rice; no potatoes as indicated on the menu. Parfait station had lots of fresh berries, pineapple and melons were ripe and tasty. Bread selections limited- pastry choices were turnovers and croissants which were not the freshest. High quality mini jars of jam were mainland favourites like strawberry, blueberry, no tropical choices. A few jars of Hawaiian Host would be nice in paradise. Servers bring you beverages like juices and coffee/tea. Gluten free pancakes were on the buffet, with coconut or maple syrup. View is beautiful. The Holoholo market by the pool serves a nice cappuccino, and was my choice the next day before heading to the farmers market down the drive for local delights (open Wednesday and Friday). Dinner menu looked interesting with many vegetarian choices and live music."
"My family of four ate breakfast here during our stay at the resort last year. We did not have a reservation and waited maybe five minutes for a table, then ordered. The food came out pretty quickly. The food was enjoyable and filling and actually a great way to start the day. But we only ate here once because of how expensive it is. We did get morning coffee and/or pastries here a few times and sat closer to the ocean to enjoy that scenery while waking up. I found their kona coffee was one of the best I had on the island. Pro tip: you can get refills on the coffee before 10 am. No one mentioned it to us until the last day. This cafe sits more poolside than oceanside."
