"I won't go into details about the particular unit we stayed in, each is a bit different. But all the Palani units have full kitchens, access to the pool and laundry, and an assigned parking space. Plus the place is only 3-4 blocks from the beach and seaside area. It's also right next to a strip mall with a coffee shop, KFC and supermarket. That's convenient. That's also an issue when they do deliveries in the early, early morning. Fact is, a major down-side is these units can be noisy, esp since they have the old 50s style louvered glass windows. So even when closed, noise gets in as well as hot air (yes, Kona gets hot). Plus the windows often don't close properly. They were probably put up in the 50s or early 60s judging from the style of apartments. And near the ocean, the salt air is quite corrosive. So with our rental, the louvered windows in the main bedroom and kitchen didn't fully close. That meant extra noise and rooms that never got cool. None of these issues would be a problem if the windows were standard double pane windows you see in all modern buildings in the tropics. But most of these units haven't been upgraded over the years. The shoddy construction also means the 1st floor residents can hear it whenever people, dogs, furniture moves in the units on the second floor. These issues won't bother folks who just want a (slightly) cheaper stay close to the action. But if you like a bit of quiet and rooms that can be cooled off, you might want to look somewhere else."

"This is a 2 star accommodation. Just understand that first and foremost. Then it depends on what your condo looks like inside. In comparison: Old Hawaii style, this would be a 3 star accommodation. Pool is nice enough, not busy. Go to the amazing Hawaii beaches instead. Don’t go here for a pool. Next time I would much rather pay $75 to $100USD more per night to stay in a more upscale resort in Hawaii. You get what you pay for. Our owner was very pleasant and easy to deal with. Can’t fault them at all. We did enjoy our 6 days here, just not the accommodation too much. Spend your time out exploring Hawaii and its a good enough place to stay, we only stayed in the condo to sleep. The price is fair and you must understand that everything on the big island is expensive. Good location though and walking distance to the small downtown core. I would not recommend staying here though unless you’re really on a budget."

"I have a friend who resides here. I realize that it is an older project, but the place is in need of a major overhaul. The buildings are in poor conditions and need a great deal of repairs. Plus many of the units are vacation rentals so people come and go frequently. So, with kids, strangers, etc, it is very dicey living conditions."

"We enjoyed our stay here. There's a dedicated parking spot, snorkeling and beach equipment for renters to use, and a warm swimming pool that locals don't use. Sure, the accommodation is not perfect nor upscale but its convenience and the above bonuses make it a very good place to stay in Kona. You can literally walk to the beach!"
