"The staff was professional and courteous when we needed the initial vehicle returned for another one. When rented, the vehicle had been well maintained and was in excellent condition. In of their fleet of cars, Camaros are featured. They are convertibles and on the island it is fun to have that option. A fill up cost 65.00 which seemed pretty reasonable and gas consumption was reasonable with a turbo charged 4 cylinder engine. During a week of stay, I did not see any Camaro rentals having road side mechanicals and we were all over the island. The illumination of instrument panel and AC worked well with two larger control knobs. The handling and tire tread were good under inclement Big Island weather conditions like heavy rain and wet roads. The chassis is low to the ground so we stayed off of non-paved roads. The radio also connected properly to Google Maps to find local attractions. Budget Rental Cars on the Big Island gets a high ranking for accommodation, driving pleasure and ease of return."
"The vehicle I reveived had multiple damages on it when I picked it up, the lower front bumper was scratched and cracked, the wheel well inside cover on the passenger side was completely gone ! The rear quarter panel was pushed in on the driver side. I asked the agent about it and she told me to take pictures as evidence of the damages were not caused by me. Since the agent was busy as there was a long line up for people picking up rentals, I did not ask for a change of vehicle, thankfully the car drove ok. I was concerned all along that Budget would stick the responsiblity of the damages to me even I have the picture evidence; fortunately the Budget attendant receiving the vehicle at the end of my rental acknowledged the damages were from rentals before mine and cleared me of any responsibility. The worst vehicle in all my car rental experiences for sure!! I do have to say however that the agent and attendant services were ok."
"The only positive component of my rental experience was the assistance provided by manager. The manager was friendly, competent and composed. The car was mechanically sound. With these two exceptions, the inadequate shuttle service was grossly understaffed and the check out counter was grossly understaffed. Does Budget believe its within the realm of reason to have its customer wait over an hour to get their vehicle? Finally, no one checked our car in, rather we were simply told to leave the keys in the cup holder, and "everything will be fine". Candidly, I hope and expect to get a confirming receipt that I am not by subject to any extra charges that I can address at the moment of return."
"Please Note: have never given a One Star Review in my entire life. But hang on. If Negative Stars Existed it would be a compliment. Worse than 3rd world experience - line out the door and spilling deep into parking lot. Simply ridiculous, nobody seems to give a damn. Have been waiting in line to pick up for nearly 2 hours. Still waiting…but on a good Note, parking lot guy says the “record is a 4 HOUR wait”. System is stupidly broken, processing is absurd. Taking >10-15 minutes to give a single customer their keys. Whoever is running this place should have been fired yesterday…2 and 3 rocket scientists, then one left. Will NEVER use or allow anyone one of my employees to book with Budget/Avis again. SAVE YOURSELF, run to any other option and let this place go BANKRUPT."
"We picked up the Budget car after dark. We did look at the car, but the following morning we noticed a serious and potentially dangerous problem. At 8:34am we noticed that the front right tire was low. The car has an automatic sensor. I took a photo to show my family the cars cool functions as I had not rented a car before that would show the tire pressure in each wheel on the dashboard. We went to fill the low tire. As it was difficult to find a gas station with a functioning air gauge, we decided to check all the tires at the same time. On checking the front left tire, my husband noticed an old crack in the tire with threads exposed. This was obviously old damage. My husband felt very concerned for our safety as a front wheel blow out could be dangerous. We requested to Budget to exchange the car, however this process became unnecessarily difficult. At Hilo they insisted we fill out an Accident/Incident report and that the cost of the tire would be sent to us as a bill to be claimed by our insurance later. It was clear that the damage was old as the rubber in the crack was not freshly exposed. Anyone who looked at it would see that. However as the crack was just on the tire it would be difficult to see in the night, which is why we didn’t notice until morning. We are upset that Budget would rent to us a potentially dangerous car, as this is negligent, and when we pointed out the problem that it was not just taken care of and the car exchanged. Now we have a bill to look forward to and a fight with the insurance company. We are really not happy with the experience."
