"Camping required a permit from their website prior to staying. ($20 residents/$30 non-residents). You cannot camp here in a car camper or rooftop tent. (We had both a rooftop tent and a ground tent for backup - which we had to use). There are officers who come around at night, check every tent on the ground and asked to see a permit. The campground is located in the Kalalau Valley. We tent camped here at the end of November. Temperatures during the day were in the 70s and at night dropped into the low 40s. It was a little windy and rainy. There are lots of chickens running around. Sites are not marked by number like on the website. They are marked by picnic tables and you pick a spot nearby it. All the sites were spread out pretty well. There were two restrooms in the area but you had to walk about 5 minutes to get to them."
"Campground is OK but toilets and cold shower was horrible. Dirty and smelly. They come to add a toilet paper but that's all. They don't clean at all, for that price you can stay in better campgrounds by the ocean."
"Stayed in July and just now getting around to a review- absolutely fantastic adventure staying up here for a few days. Great launching pad for hiking the trails around the canyon. They are 100% accurate about the roosters - up by 2am and echoing around the place. But definitely a jurassic feel to the place I would add a couple of things for those looking to stay and never have - sites are designated tent camping only. Stoves in campsite are a 50% chance (along with water at the site from what we observed). Showers are fresh and very cold. Nights get chilly, so don't make the mistake that we did after our first night and end up having to drive to Walmart for extra bedding. Also, you are a guest, so treat the place with respect (please). But all that being said - HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend"
"You need to book a spot online ahead of time. The camping spots are secluded from another, each one has its own barbecue and water tap. The restrooms are in a very bad shape, but you may use the ones from the Lodge's restaurant nearby if you order something (food and drink there are very good btw)"
"Stayed here for 2 nights with our family of 4 (8&10yr old). The location is very good, close to all the lookouts and trails. The Koke’e Lodge Cafe/restaurant next to the campground is super nice and even sells ice (convenient for campers)! Huge grassfield with fun swing for the kids. We stayed at spot 5, which I wouldn't really recommend if you have lots of stuff to take up. It's far up (you have to get through high grass that is really wet in the mornings) and quite dark as little sun comes in. The bathrooms: toilets were clean although quite worn down, my husband took a cold shower, we decided not to. Very quiet at night, until the roosters kick in, but that's ok. Overall: great place to stay for 1 or 2 nights!"
