Fairmont Orchid - Hawaii

"My wife and I brought some of our children here for a week-long stay. The staff were friendly, but clear they would bring our luggage cart to the room, which is definitely not the kind of service we're used to. The grounds were beautiful and even though the facility is showing its age, most everything you need is there. The weather was not the best; lots of wind, however the bay and lagoon connected to the hotel property made for some excellent snorkeling opportunities without a lengthy car ride. As a hotel guest you can borrow equipment without an extra fee. The Puakō Petroglyph Park was a short hike from our room and on the way there and back we bird watched and spotted whales further out into the surf. There's only one issue with the rooms, which makes me scratch my head, and that's the absence of refrigerators. There are chillers but they won't do any good for preserving food. Luckily there was a kettle and filtered water available for free, so we were able to make some food. The staff was very helpful and polite; we learned to weave palm fronds and respect local wildlife at free educational meetings offered during the week. The pool and hot tub are available 24/7 with areas designated for different ages. If given the opportunity to return, I would absolutely do so."

"Spent our honeymoon here and were BLOWN AWAY! The customer service wasn’t like anything I’ve ever experienced or heard of. They truly celebrated us and blessed us richly! The food was fantastic and the room was IMMACULATE and MAGICAL! We will certainly be returning!!"

"Unbelievable hotel, the staff were amazing. First off the food was amazing with several fantastic dining venues. The buffet breakfast was outstanding and our favourite was Brown's Beach House, an amazing menu - the food was amazing, possibly one of the best meals I've ever had which was only rivalled by the most spectacular view of the ocean. We have a toddler who can be a handful sometimes but between the staff, amazing food for kids and massive pool our little one was entertained and easy to handle the whole time and I can't thank the hotel staff or chef's enough for that as tired parents who seriously needed a vacation (and got one). The beach is amazing and perfectly calm when other beaches were very rough with waves."

"Amazing staff, comfortable rooms, lots of amenities, this is a pretty great hotel. The lagoon was a great feature that I really enjoyed. The location is perfect for a Big Island trip and plenty of parking if you're driving and a big bonus was electric parking (limited to 2 spaces). I wish they had more dedicated adults only. They do have a section of the pool, but I would have appreciated a dedicated adults only seating section at the breakfast buffet, lagoon seating, etc. There are a lot of families at this hotel so it'd be nice for those couple travelers to have quieter areas."
