"OMG!!! Not kidding...I moved from OK to MN a few years back and had never been to Summit Ave until my daughter and I downloaded some dumb game that basically drove us down the road. Holy moly! Yeah...holy)*^*&! A few months pass, my girlfriend is coming to town from OK to visit and I see this place. I'm thinking..."if this is one of those"...and it is folks. What an absolute delight and honor it was to stay in one of those homes. Those that manage this property have a efficient, people-free, "welcome to our home", approach. It's very quiet, it's HUGE, it's gorgeous, the rooms are not rooms, they are suites with multiple rooms to them and I believe our room was 202? It's on the corner facing the river... I arrived before my lady would land so that I could place some beverages and flowers for her arrival. I opened the door to what must be one of the best views of Saint Paul. It's amazing... The living area is kept vintage to a point with modern flare, small kitchenette but don't get too excited about cooking, nice bath with an awesome jet tub, and the bedroom is off the rails amazing. The windows are monstrous...look to one side and you see the rich dude next door butt naked (kidding, but it could happen), but in a mansion you could only dream to own, you look toward the river and you can see five states away. This neighborhood is indeed something to see, but to be allowed to stay in one of the homes was a fascinating treat that I hope to do again soon!"
"Everything was splendid! The room was big and had many updates that fit well with the time period of the house. The piano was a bonus, and was fun to "tickle the ivories". The recommendation of the University Club, for dinner was excellent., Intimate and quiet setting. The bathroom had a faint suffer smell, upon arrival, but hopefully this can be remedied for future guests. Fireplaces were beautiful. My husband and I are wood burners, and enjoy a crackling fire. There are products made to look like a fire, which would be fun to look at. Perhaps even some flameless candles."
"The Davidson was a delightful surprise--a complete change from the national chain hotels that seem to dominate this area. The hotel is converted from a historic mansion on the gorgeous Summit Avenue in St. Paul. Our room had an amazing hilltop view of the city to the east, and charming historic details that made the stay feel extra special. On the main level are two "common space" living rooms with books, a puzzle, and games. There are restaurants and coffee shops within a half-mile walk of the hotel, but our suite also had a kitchenette, should we have brought our own food. Highly recommend."
"Booked here for the night of my wedding. Never was sent an access code to get into the building despite replying to their automated email when we booked. Showed up and there is no lobby or staff only a phone number. Hesitate to even call this a hotel as an AirBnB offers more service at that point. Called the phone number at the door 3 times and was put on hold then told they would call back each time. I stood in the cold with my wife shivering in her wedding dress for almost 30 minutes before other guests came to save the day and inform us the code is simply the last 4 of your phone number. Why they couldn't have just told us that in the beginning is beyond me, since my number obviously would only work if we booked anyway. Unless you enjoy overpaying for a glorified Airbnb with no guarantee you will even be let in, take your money elsewhere."
"We stayed at the Davidson for one night and I wish it was more. The beds were comfy and the rooms were spacious. The bathtub was amazing and having a kitchenette in the room was a nice perk. The neighborhood is beautiful and The Davidson is walkable distance to a fair amount of restaurants. It was a very enjoyable stay!"
