"Gorgeous! There are so many trails and ways to go, but they're all pretty. We parked by the nature center (easier to find your car afterwards and has bathrooms) and ended up going on the nearby lower Macleay trail. We went November 2023 and didn't see any banana slugs. After the hike, head to the nearby Skyline Restaurant for a yummy dinner!"
"Place: *Many trails here so you feel secluded though it is a very popular hiking area. *Not an exaggeration, this is an enchanting beautiful green forest. *Local and touristic. Pet: *Dog friendly. *Dogs must be in leash. *Dogs will love this place! Pros: *Cooling temperature all year around. *Easy to find parking (came at 6:30pm on a Sunday & 6pm on weekdays). *Running/jogging friendly place. Cons: *No trash bins. *Visible amount of poop bags. *Some dead end trails. Tips: *Check out the classy, tasteful & unique line of houses around Forest Park. *Know there are no bins; if you bring your dog you will have to carry the poop bag throughout the hike or take it with you. *2 loop trails doable for couple hrs - see photo."
"This is such a beautiful park! For being so close to the city, it's actually very quiet. Even on a Saturday morning you don't see many people on the trails and most of the people you will see are runners, so it's not very crowded. The Leif Erikson drive trail is more of a bike path so that trail is pretty populated with people on bikes as well as runners and hikers. So if you are looking for more of secluded hike among the forest I would stick to the other trails. But you do get some great views of the mountains from some points on Leif Erikson. Overall this park is extremely beautiful and a great place to get away and be out in the fresh air and get a good excercise in. There are many connecting trails and lots of different ways you can make a loop hike, long or short. My husband and I recently moved here from Ohio and this park has been a great escape and a pleasant surprise!"
"Amazing trails and beautiful scenery. Trails are very long, but have nice paths(other than mud, which is natural) and decent amount of signs to be able to tell where you are going and what trail you want to go on. Signs are scattered at important intersections and are fairly easy to read."
"This place is a gem right next to the heart of Downtown Portland. I love all the trails, wildlife and sense of peace and stillness that this place provides. Other hikers and runners are courteous as they pass you. I am looking forward to exploring other parts of this great park."
