Northern View Community

Northern View Community, located at 1 Northern View Circle in DeKalb, Illinois, is a housing option for upper-division students, nontraditional students, and students with families. The community features five apartment buildings with two and three-bedroom units, as well as a limited number of one-bedroom units for family-style living. Each apartment is unfurnished but includes essential appliances such as a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, washer, and dryer. Residents have access to a spacious courtyard and a community center with 24-hour availability.

To qualify for housing at Northern View, residents must meet specific requirements by September 1st. The community also offers a guest policy for visitors and provides parking with a yellow permit. The Huskie Bus Line, Route 11, serves the community with stops at various locations on and off-campus.

Safety and security are a top priority at Northern View, with key access required for entry into buildings and apartments. The community center houses an NIU Police community safety center for added security. Residents can receive mail and packages at designated locations within the community.

Residents are responsible for maintaining a clean and safe living environment and are not allowed to smoke on campus property. Alcoholic beverages are permitted for residents over 21, and grilling is allowed at a safe distance from buildings. Pets are not allowed, with the exception of small fish.

Students must be NIU students, their dependents, or spouses/partners to live in Northern View. Elementary, middle, and high school students in the area attend local schools within the DeKalb Community School District 428.
