The apartments feature two and three-bedroom units, as well as a limited number of one-bedroom units for family-style living. Apartments come unfurnished but include essential appliances such as a refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, washer, and dryer. Each bedroom includes amenities like closets, window blinds, Ethernet ports, and cable outlets.
Residents must meet specific requirements to live in the different types of apartments available. Parking is available with a yellow parking permit, and the Huskie Bus Line provides transportation to various locations on and off campus.
Safety and security are a top priority, with key access required for entry into buildings and apartments. The community center also houses an NIU Police community safety center for added security. Mail and packages are conveniently delivered to designated mailboxes outside the community center.
Residents can enjoy amenities such as a multipurpose room, game room, playroom, study lounge, and administrative offices in the community center. Guests are allowed with adherence to guest policies, and furniture deliveries must be coordinated by residents themselves.
Northern View Apartments do not require a meal plan, and residents have the option to select from meal plan options offered to off-campus students. Alcohol consumption is allowed for residents over 21, but smoking and pets (except small fish) are prohibited.
Residents must maintain clean and safe living conditions in their units, and grilling is allowed at a safe distance from buildings. Students must be NIU students, their dependents, or spouses/partners to live in the apartments.
For students with children, there are designated schools in the area for elementary, middle, and high school levels. Tours of the apartments are available by appointment only, and photos can be viewed online for a virtual tour experience.
