Austin Gardens
About the Business
Austin Gardens is a beautiful and serene park located at 167 Forest Avenue in Oak Park, Illinois. Tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood, it is often referred to as "The Secret Garden" due to its peaceful atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. With woodland plant life and mature trees, Austin Gardens offers a tranquil escape for visitors.
The park is home to 285 trees within its 3.64 acre boundary, providing a lush and green environment for all to enjoy. In 2015, the Park District of Oak Park constructed a 2,100 square foot Environmental Education Center within the park, offering nature day camps, educational programs, and community events.
The Environmental Education Center is LEED Platinum certified and has been recognized as one of Illinois' 200 Great Places by the American Institute of Architects. The park also features outdoor art installations, a perimeter pathway, and a spacious green area for relaxation and recreation.
Founded in 1975, the Oak Park Festival Theatre performs classic plays, especially those of William Shakespeare, in Austin Gardens during the summer months. The park was generously donated by Henry W. Austin, Jr. to the Park District in 1947, with the condition that it remains a public park bearing the Austin family name.
With a Trust held by the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation, Austin Gardens continues to be a beloved oasis for the community, offering a place for relaxation, education, and recreation for all to enjoy.

Reviews
"Modest-sized park with a wide variety of trees (well labeled) and an eco-friendly headquarters. No ball field, playground, or basketball setup; mostly a quieter shady oasis with walking paths. Occasional events like readings and plays."
"Beautiful, peaceful, kind and encouraging interactions. Lovely puppies and dogs too!"
"Just discovered this gem of an amazing place to just zen out and they have a little library with amazing books. I might just donate some too."
"Nice open area with a safe and friendly vibe. Dog-friendly and kid-friendly! It’s behind some nice apartment complexes and far enough away from busy street traffic. There appears to be a field house, benches along the walking path, and a nice field in the middle. Lots of trees to provide shade in the summer!"
