"The one thing this place taught me is to tell no one. I was in youth inpatient and all the main psychiatrist did was yell and shame me. I talked to my therapist about him and she even said that he shouldn’t be working anywhere near inpatient. He is the reason I am struggling now, and the whole inpatient is just a guilt trip that makes you wanna be six feet under even more. He is the reason I am never reaching out again, even if it means I’m struggling terribly. I would give it a 0, but that isn’t possible, I would even go so far as to give it a negative. This made me happy for about two months and then it made me scared that I was gonna get yelled at and shamed for hurting myself or attempting, it made my issues worse than they were before. I went to another inpatient recently, and I talked to a nurse there, who worked here for a month, and left because she thought some of the tactics rivaled torture techniques. T-o-r-t-u-r-e. And I'm not forgetting how this place handed out sedatives like candy on Halloween night. SEDATIVES. This place should be shut down. Horrible, inhumane, and absolutely, downright, disgusting."
"A family member was a patient for a little over a week. They helped the family member in ways that we couldn’t. They walked us through it every step of the way being on the outside. My family member is well because of the staff here. I highly Recommend this facility to anyone who truly needs help."
"If I could give negative stars I would. I have Bipolar 1 disorder and spent about a week in the ward. I was brought in by police during a manic episode caused by medication following a surgery. Dr Quinn and the entire care team failed me in every way. I refused medication the entire time and was aggressive. Looking back I should have been forcefully sedated and forced to sleep, not indulged by overnight nursing staff and allowed to be overstimulated by music night after night and slip further and further into psychosis. Further, I believe the use of religious iconography is dangerous in a clinical setting for bipolar patients. Dr. Quinn's staff refused to speak with my family and take much needed medical history or reach out to my outpatient therapist. They did not communicate with my general practicioner to find out what medications they let me withdraw on. I was released to public a danger to the community without having slept in nearly week. To Dr. Quinn's credit he did accurately diagnose me and recommended a temporary commitment. However, the lack of communication with my family or doctors did not allow him to get a clear picture of my mental health history. More have could have been done , such as suggesting a transfer to my preferred hospital system that I felt safe in rather throwing me in an Uber actively hallucinating, paranoid and manic. I spent the next three months wandering outside talking to myself, spending thousands, getting evicted, losing all of my possessions, my job I had held for 7 years, my entire social network, my vehicle. It took me being peppered sprayed in jail and left naked in a cell for week to agree to take abilify. This was after missing warrants for my initial arrested that I had no memory of. I had zero ability to form memory. Couldn't perceive how to get a vehicle out of impound. and next time you have an aggressive patient please restrain him and sedate him with zyprexa or haldol. Also whoever your social worker guy was that screamed at me "get out" at the only group session i tried to be a part of and kicking a chair the top of his lungs. Screw you dude. Have some compassion I was psychotic and lacked awareness and was suffering. You have anger issues. Here's a hint: even if I'm refusing medication, antipsychotics in a b52 just might make a psychotic patient lucid when they wake to follow treatment protocol . Try and educate patients with a pamphlet on the disease with symptoms on it or something if you can't establish a therapeutic relationship with a patient. Update: funny how there's no response from st vincent. If you're a hospital that charges people 27000 dollars to deal with crazy people for a week actually do something. Otherwise you're not qualified to handle acutely disabled individuals. Seems like all they can handle is depressed people. Jail did a better job."
"If I could give 0 stars I would. My sister’s child was seen by the stress center when dealing with severe mental health issues - was kicked out after a week because she was “playing games” - obviously a response we were not expecting from a mental health specialist. Well since then, we’ve continued to battle with her mental health issues and when requesting paperwork in order to elevate our concerns to a different facility and have her admitted, they failed to send any paperwork after it was requested. Two weeks later I followed up as I’m trying to get her into a completely different facility after being denied at the first one because they never received her paperwork. You’re telling me after two weeks, they still have not sent paperwork for someone dealing with severe mental health issues?! While I’m at the St. Vincent to get a hard copy, I was then told that the doctor has to approve the release of physical paperwork - which is completely bizarre being that she’s an adolescent and is my child. They also could not show me proof that they ever responded to the first request. The pure incompetency and lack of care; my child could have died in this slow process because of their lack of response. It’s utterly disgraceful. My hope is this doesn’t happen to any other parent or patient."
