"If this is the gold star of hospital care, I would hate to see what other hospitals offer. I would never go to this hospital again. It's been 4 months since I spent a week there and I cannot think of a single thing I liked. My 2 stars would be a 10 for the transport people taking me to x-ray and to the exit."
"University Hospital transferred my partnerJerry after a 2 week hospital stay to a physical rehabilitation hospital and called an out of network ambulance to make the transfer. We really can't afford this $711 Ambulance charge from an out of network provider. We were in the hospital, paid by Aetna, from Jan 11 to Jan 25, and then transferred to Wellbrooke Carmel rehab facility on Jan 25 where Jerry stayed thru Feb 9. It was the hospitalist or charge nurse on Jan 25 who ordered the transfer and ambulance. I was there to transport Jerry just assuming we would be driving ourselves, but they said he had to go by ambulance and that it had been ordered. No one said anything about it being out of network. Now Aetna is only paying a portion, and we "may be billed" $711. This is just not something we feel we should have to pay. We called and talked to Indiana University Hospital billing and they said the matter was still in the insurance claim process and they had no billing information at all. But Aetna website shows the claim for $1665 from the ambulance company, only paid a portion, and says we may be be billed $711. We are now afraid we are going to be receiving a bill from this out of network ambulance company called Statewide Transfer Ambulance and Rescue for $711 for an ambulance we didn't call, and didn't need really. We expected him to be discharged and brought down to our car and for us to drive ourselves to the rehab facility which was going to get him walking again. Why would IU Health University Hospital intentionally call an out of network ambulance, why wouldn't they allow us to drive ourselves, why didn't they tell us the ambulance was out of network, and why don't they let their billing office even talk to us about it? Its a real problem and we have a big complaint about it."
"I don't know what to say. I am beside myself. I have never been treated so rudely. My son is having surgery at this facility and this is my experience. Coming to the hospital. There is nothing marked as far as what area of the hospital is what. After getting several directions, a couple of trips throughout the facility, about an hour later my wife and I found where we needed to be. Then we find out that there are only 2 people allowed in the waiting room. So his wife and my wife are in the waiting room. I was in the cafeteria for a while but it closed. The lobby chairs are all taken. I am guessing because of their waiting room policy. Now I am sitting in my truck in the parking garage. Mind you they said the surgery will be 4 to 7 hours. I thought about pushing the situation and raising a little cain, but then decided that will not do anyone any good. I sure hope they take better care of their patients than they do the family of the patients. This is my son!!! It is not like I am an uncle or something. And make sure you steer clear of the bathrooms. I have been in cleaner truck stop bathrooms. Not too much I can do about the situation. But I will be sure to let everyone know to go somewhere else if given a choice. I know my rant here will not do any good but am doing it anyway."
"The doctor who delivered my baby here, in an attempt to break my water, went too far and penetrated my baby’s skull, killing him. I delivered a still born. This is after I told the doctor I wanted to be induced. She insisted on breaking my water. This happened in 2019 and it’s taken almost 5 years for me to have the courage to write this. I looked into filing a lawsuit, but the statute of limitations had passed by the time I had grieved and had the mental capacity to look into it."
"This is the worst experience I’ve ever had at a hospital. EVER….and I have a real good amount of experience. I will NEVER recommend this hospital to anyone ever, and I do not normally feel compelled to leave a review, but I have to share my experience in case it may help others. First off, I never received any communication on surgery pre op, just the date. No pre op mailings at all. So I really came into my cancer surgery uninformed. Not that big of a deal as I can figure stuff out, but I can’t imagine for someone who has trouble with that type of situation. Absolutely no information post operation from doctors or multiple residents I believe all had knowledge of my case….Obviously someone should follow up in a reasonable amount of time after a major surgery to inform me, right? Nope. Not a one doctor dealing with my case stopped by nor was I talked to by any doctor post op or on rounds. Still have not seen a doctor post op and it’s been 15 hours at least since my surgery. I also had a MRI post surgery but the resident who ordered it didn’t respond to whether I needed IV contrast or not…SO I MADE THE CALL and said yes which I believe was right, but still not sure. Then, they make you share a room….no communication or choice on this. I would have chose a different location if possible had I known this. I was in shock upon discovering this POST OP WITH MY FAMILY AS I WAS WHEELED IN…..I did have a very nice roommate though. So, as you try to sleep in pain the best you can, nurses and multiple other people going in and out of your room at all hours for someone else. Which is necessary for my roommate and I totally understand that. The picture below is my room at 2:14 am with door open for 5 minutes which woke me. Now it’s 2:22 am and I had to call the nurse back because no one is coming by to silence the alarm on my roommate’s machine! I also feel horrible for my roommate as well because he is awaken every time I get meds or checked. Absolutely terrible service. I also snore when I’m extremely sleep deprived so it can’t be relaxing for him either. Update at 4:00 am (second photo) - now they are stopping to take my vitals, which is normal and both staff are very nice…but instead of drawing my blood out of the IV already in place, they had to draw it from my arm because the one staff isn’t allowed to out of the IV, yet the nurse was with my roommate and could have? Weird. Plus, waking my roommate as lights had to be turned on for the draw. Do not have an inpatient surgery done here if you have a choice. This is by far the most unprofessional and low grade experience ever…..and it’s only 2:30 am of my first night. Very poor quality of a patient experience. I will update more after discharge. So far, this system has billed my insurance over $700K with everything done. Now I know they negotiate lower rates but that’s what I know the top line dollar amount is because that figure is listed in my EOBs. You would think better service and accommodations could be had for that price."
