Boots Court Motel
About the Business
Boots Court Motel, located at 107 South Garrison Avenue in Carthage, Missouri, is a historic lodging institution along the iconic Route 66. Built in 1939 by Arthur Boots in the Streamline Moderne style, the motel catered to Route 66 tourists with its unique design. Despite its high nightly rate of $2.50 at the time, Boots Court was a successful business and expanded to include additional units. Over the years, the motel fell into disrepair but was saved from possible demolition by the Boots Court Foundation in 2021. Now fully restored, Boots Court offers quality rooms for travelers exploring the Mother Road.

"Delightful stay! A lot of character in these little rooms. We arrived later in the day and received checkin info via text before staff left, they were friendly and helpful. It was a great place to stop for a night. I’m a very light sleeper so travel with a noise machine, which did help to sleep as we were in the first room by the road and there were some louder cars. The blinds are also not blackout so a little bright but we ended up sleeping fine. The bathroom is packed with character, but quite tight with not much counter space and small shower (still fun, only sharing in case this is an issue for your needs). Overall, the architecture was so unique and having the radio on was a delight! Everything had a ton of charm. In the morning, we tried to stop by the visitor center which ended up being closed that day. While we were sitting in the car outside deciding what to do next, a member of their cleaning staff saw us, let us in, and helped us purchase a few souvenirs! She truly went out of her way to help and it was so appreciated. A small gesture but helped us complete a keychain collection we started on Route 66 - not a big deal to be missing one stop, but made our day!! Overall, great place to stop for the night if your expectations are accurate for what is offered (vintage boutique charm in a small town with friendly people, not a predictable hotel chain with certain conveniences like 24 hour staff on site, mini fridge etc.). P.S. a travel tip if you’re arriving coming from the West, we stopped at Pops on the way and it was delightful to crack open a bottle of soda from the cooler when we arrived!"
"The Boots is not just a route 66 treasure, but a national one. Lovingly restored, the Boots is nostalgic and clean, with the radio playing softly as we entered the room. Got a great history lesson from the staff and had an even better sleep. Of course I will stay here again!"
"Grand restoration - stayed here and would DEFINITELY stay again. Welcome Center right next door will be another great addition to the RT-66 experience. Carthage is a nice town to spend time in - recommended all round!"
"Loved staying here as part of our Route 66 trip. Clean room, comfortable bed, friendly and helpful staff. The radio playing oldies when we walked in the room was the icing on the cake!"
"Wanted to stay in as many traditional Route 66 motels as possible and read all of the positive reviews so was looking forward to staying here, however didn't have a good experience. The decor was good - very vintage, and the bed fairly comfortable, but the sheets appeared to be damp. The blinds were totally ineffective and didn't reach the sills so not only was the room lit up from the green neon, but also by the white neon on the neighboring building. In addition to the bright lights there were also frequent train whistles and large trucks accelerating on the road. The result, and reason for the low rating, was no sleep. Also the shower was very small with a high black curtain and no light, so it was difficult to use, and there was no bolt on one side of the connecting door between the two rooms."
