Reviews
"The Union is a tempting offer, it's next to WSU's campus, being fully furnished with all inclusive rent... that's where the positives end. I rented here for three years & I can sum it up as BEWARE! We experienced management under both Bethany & Kelly & were not impressed by either of them. This review will be rather lengthy simply due to the number of issues we had while living here. Heating & air conditioning in many units do not work. Every winter we went long stretches without heat. Management gave every unit two small space heaters in our first year to use that would constantly trip the breaker. You have to choose between having a small amount of heat or having power. With midwest winters that is unacceptable. For our second & third year, they just piled up unused space heaters in the lobby & told residents to come get them - the overwhelming majority of which did not work. We also had to endure summers without air conditioning. They closed their trash rooms in our second year (they claim it was because of residents improperly using it, but they also had a fly infestation coming from the chutes they couldn't fix). Now they have a trash collection service where people place trash in the hallways outside their doors. The rules for this are very strict - bags must be certain proportions, you can only have two bags and/or one box out at a time, & so on. This collection only happens on certain days and times, so you frequently need to bring trash down yourself. They will charge you hefty fines for not following their strict codes. There is little discipline from residents living here. As mentioned before, trash bags are piled up in the hallways (by design!) which make each floor stink, in addition to the constant marijuana odor from residents. There are no quiet hours or anything like that here, as residents will continue to be loud & noisy well into the night which is horrible for students trying to get their rest for their classes. There is no on-site parking besides a small parking lot in the center underneath the building. There are three 20-minute parking spots for residents, while multiple other spots are reserved for employees & businesses. These spots are both monitored not at all and too closely depending on the day. Sometimes vehicles will sit for days or weeks in the 20 minute parking zones, while others will be hit with a towing notice within minutes of being parked. They call the towing company every morning to come tow at least one car out of the lot, seemingly at random. The closest available parking is structure 8 which is a couple blocks away. The building also has multiple pest problems. As mentioned before, there were fly issues in the trash rooms, but there are also cockroaches which infested apartments, as well as bed bugs. For bedbugs they actually did their job & checked for them in apartments, etc. For the roaches, they couldn't care less. They hire an outside contractor to come in, who simply says there is nothing they can do, and you are stuck with roaches. Speaking of maintenance, the maintenance team is very unprofessional. They send you no notice of coming into your apartment, they will simply knock once & come in regardless if you answer them or not or if anyone is even home. Additionally, we had issues with our cable & internet, where our internet would continually cut out multiple times a day, & our TV would lose signal for days or weeks at a time. We were told that maintenance could not fix the internet, & when they called a contractor for the cable, they said everything was fine and left. It was extremely frustrating to live here with so many issues going on. This place is slowly falling apart & management seemingly does not care. While the staff is friendly on the outside, this only goes so far when you're freezing in your apartment, with roaches, & intermittent cable & internet. The regional manager, Jordan, is absolutely unprofessional and a horrible person to try to work with. It is like pulling teeth dealing with upper management. In short, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!"
"If looking into student housing this place is located in a great area. Jordan, Kelly and Amma have been so professional and helpful through the move in process along with my sons stay this year so far. Maintenance also got an issue done with the washing machine in a very timely manner. So far we are very satisfied with the choice we made for housing. Thank you union at midtown."
"I’ve been living here for 2 months exactly today and have been loving it here. We’ve had a few issues within our unit, but maintenance has been great and comes relatively quick after submitting a maintenance order (depending on the time of day though of course). But he’s in and out within a few minutes and fixes things well. The people in the office are very nice and helpful; they respond to emails relatively quick as well which I appreciate. The location couldn’t have been any better either. I love being able to just walk outside the door and walk across the street to get on campus. Only downfall is I live on the first floor, which is fine, but it tends to be very dark in our apartment since there’s not much natural light and our view is a brick wall, giving us some privacy from the parking lot. But other than that, everything’s been great since I moved in!"
"They are completely unorganized. The regional manager, Jordan Wohl, is extremely unprofessional. Your time and money will not be a first priority. Would encourage any Wayne State University student to look for housing elsewhere."
"Live here for three years and loved it! The staff are so so nice and accommodating and I had very few issues in my time at the Union. It's perfect for students and is definitely one of the best options in the area. I would definitely recommend living here!"
