Red Arrow Motel

"I pulled into the red arrow motel on Plymouth Road in Dixboro, Michigan in need of an inexpensive hotel room. I met Judith the owner. Very affable, very nice, and very matter-of-factly. She showed me a room and without hesitation, said it was “hospital clean” and she said it with all confidence. Now I’ve been on a journey for two months staying in cheap hotels and I honestly spent three days cleaning one of them and never got a chance to do my work (I'm an Artist and I need a clean environment to work in. Because I’m a clean freak (not to be confused with a germaphobe). I had to wipe down a table because of my clean tendencies. I was going to dry coffee cups on there. There was nothing on my paper towel!!! Amazing! The place really was "hospital clean"> So, just for grins and giggles, I did a little white glove in the bathroom and bedroom... It’s all hospital clean as well. Also the place is full of nostalgia. It has these old cabinets, old wood paneling, old fixtures, old lights, old fans, but there are no smells. There was even a little three wick candle that I could use in the room that smells nice. Based on the rate paid for four days… I got the best value of my entire ordeal at hotels, and I would include a couple of the major chain hotels that I stayed at. "Horrible stay. The smell in the room was awful. It was a non-smoking room. Cash only, $50 per night. Towels and linen filthy. The shower was tiny without enough room to raise your arm. Awful experience."

"There's a fine line between disappearing completely, and slipping into the spaces between the rest of the world. The line is a red arrow. Does one have to be lost in order to find themselves? I ponder this from a room in this motel. What is my purpose? What will my legacy be? The red arrow motel can represent a legacy. It does not intend to nor does it likely know. (These places do have a particular sentience absent in buildings more rooted in the fabric of the real world. Maybe to become self aware you do have slip between the cracks, then?) Long ago, we used travel between kingdoms and stop at a monastic keep (it too, sometimes separate from the trappings of current events context) for rest. For whatever meager fee, they would provide us with food, a place to rest, and an opportunity to reflect in a location where time stands still. This at least, has not changed. Even if the world has."
